Describing McGuigan as one of the top forwards in the country depends on how wide a net you're casting.
Are you saying he's not?

Derry Optimist

Without a shadow of doubt, Conor Glass is the best all-round Gaelic footballer playing the game today. In every game his player stats consistently show that he is always on the move as he constantly transitions from his defensive duties to his control of the midfield sector and then his many offensive forays when required. His personal mantra  is:"What can I do do to maximise the potential of either scoring for my team or assisting others to do so." Likewise he is available countless times to prevent a score at the other end.  Everything is done with a specific purpose for the good of the team. In  addition his radar-type vision and instinctive sense of anticipation make his total work rate in any game simply phenomenal.

Is he in the absolute uppermost echelon with Clifford, Con, Rian etc? No, he's not.

Are you saying he is?!

He's outscored them all in recent championships from play. Derry had a bad year last year but he was definitely better than Rian in 2022 and 2023. He was the best footballer in the country in 2023 imo

Derry Optimist

Clifford, Con and Rian are excellent from midfield upwards. Conor Glass is equally good in defense as well as in the other two sectors and shows leadership on the field at all times.

Bit of a feeling that some of glass Derry performances in years past were a bit passive and not done enuf . Has really stepped it up this year and last 2 games he's been excellent when they really needed him the most

Agree 100% Sunday was one of his most consistent performances.

Rodgers under Gallagher Turner up every week absolute tour de force.

Was also very good Sunday

As an inside forward I think he is on his day or very close to it. We rarely if ever see Rian inside these days though.

Definitely Murphy. An elite full forward, midfielder and referee.

Hypothetically, who would win if it was team of 15 of the one player. In that case I think I'd go with Rian. He's top class anywhere from 8 up, I'm sure he'd be decent in the half back line and his work rate and tackling would do a job in the full back line. Even has the hands and a great boot on him for nets lol.

Glass would be another shout there as well. A left field one would be Aidan Forker, has played across the back 6 to a high level for Armagh, started off his career at wing forward and was a handful at 14 in his day as well, scored about 2-4 in a county final against Cross a few years ago.

Mourne Red

Currently playing Murphy.. Retired but in recent times would say Lee Keegan is up there with Murphy

I'd say Murphy of course but his tackling is woeful lol

Tackling is immaculate, never gets a black or red card 👀😂

Cloning a man 15x and then playing against teams made up of the same, is one of those conversations that should only be held after 12 pints.

But if I was thinking of one player I've seen for that role, it would be Johnny Doyle.

I'm not sure there's a current player fits the bill as well of being big / powerful enough to play midfield, wiry enough to play at corner back, athletic enough to play across half back and half forward.

If we're going to step back I'll go further.. Pat Spillane.. and he did just about turn up on every inch on the park. Became bit of a fun figure in recent years for his TV analysis.. but he was some player.
