Captain Scarlet

For Kildare 8 lads have made their senior debut this year and others are still bedding in from last year.

Confidence is up, but Div 2 would be a much bumpier ride.

Ww hoped it would go well, but weren't expecting results like Saturday.

The same Laois that beat Kildare last year? It would be reasonable of him not to expect to hammer them.

Draw in Brewster .

Sligo will be sick
7 point lead really is nothing

They had the game won twice until Fermanagh got the 2 point shooting boots on.

Very happy with the point.
Should be enough to keep us safe with Leitrim to play and truth be told , we are nowhere near ready for Div 2.

Wanted.  Forwards to take frees.
Not fussy.  Any sort of ability will be considered

Captain Scarlet

Won't make Ennis, but a win would guarantee us promotion at this stage I think.

A couple of boaters showed well in the past 2 games. Cathal Hagney wouldn't be widely known even in Kildare.

Dan Flynn got his first minutes and we have the strongest bench in years.

I do think we are too forward minded and come championship holes at the back could be exploited.

I had put a bet on Kildare and Sligo to go up...

Good win for Clare against Kildare 2-12 to 0-16
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

FermGael

So that's division 3 thrown wide open with Clare's win today .

Any two now from Kildare, Laois, Offaly and Clare.

Sligo V Clare a very important game at both ends of the table.

Leitrim played better today but they are now relegated .

Probably between Sligo and Antrim for the other relegation spot

A poor league for Sligo. McEntee in his 5th year as manager and never got beyond division 3.

It is disappointing. Saturday was a kick in teeth 19-12 up. By most accounts McEntee disrupted our rhythm with the changes 2nd half which looked preplanned but you got to adapt to the game. McEntee is not a good manager. He hasn't developed the panel and its largely the same players year on year. This has stagnated the development of the underage players coming through which his greatest flaw. He is far too loyal to low ceiling players and is getting found out this year.

Kildare have given gametime to 13 players of the U20 All Ireland final, Sligo in contrast are at 4 with 1 only a regular. He allegedly concentrate's on finding flaws in the younger players. The county board continue to believe in this management which is a mistake.

Saturday was a beacon of hope but Management found a way to mess it up.

Loads of posts getting taken down on Hoganstand of Sligo posters criticising the state of Markievicz park pitch which is telling. County Board look to have a lot of influence on there. You can't really criticise McEntee on there either.

None of what is happening within Sligo and on the pitch is surprising to those who have watched Sligo over the last few years.

Still if we beat Antrim away and Leitrim home we will stay up which I believe we can do (that's if Kildare beat Antrim). Clare at home is a free hit too but they look very impressive against Kildare.

Even if you evaluate from the outside, the last 5 years our underage has been winning at A level standard in schools and minor and u20 and our club had its breakthrough this year. Our u20s haven't lost to Mayo in 3 years which is unheard of. The only lagging factor is our County Seniors and I believe management are a big problem here. They way we were prepared this year was nothing short of a disaster and it showed but the CB continue to give them support and a free pass.

Kildare should still gain promotion after yesterdays setback but won't be easy to pick who will join them in Div 2 next year.  Antrim v Sligo in Belfast will be a relegation play off to see who will fall to Div 4.

Half time Sligo 0-9 Clare 0-7.    Good win for Sligo 1-19 to 2-14.

It was a good win and we are starting to score where it needs to be. A few issues is closing out games remains an issue, 7 pts up the week before 6 pts up in injury time today and Clare missed a chance by foot to equalise. We don't seem to be learning fast at all this year. Our record at home remains very good across all teams but thanks to incompetence we will be closing Markievicz Park fairly soon for all our minor and u20 matches and county matches due to the state of the pitch which will need to get redone again.

Anyways while that gets looked at, all eyes are on Corrigan park for the winner takes all showdown with Antrim. We should have plenty of belief and confidence but under huge pressure so hard to know how it will go. Are Antrim missing any players from all the sendings off?

It will be interesting to see where Kildare are now after their first blip. I didn't make the game, but they seemingly missed a lot and let Sexton have the freedom of the pitch in the first half. Offaly will be a test, but we have had time to sort things and being honest we needed a loss to see the reaction.

Kildare are great at all levels when things are going their way. Sligo's win opens it all up again, and it kinda shows that the teams here are no world beaters.

All fair points.
I do think Sligo will stay up though. Will beat Antrim this weekend and Leitrim weekend after. Is that enough to buy McEntee another year though? 5 years is a long stint, and there is a wave of really young talent coming through. I'd have thought a change now would be in everyones interests.

Captain Scarlet

At the Sligo v Kildare match there were a lot of failira faces in the Sligo set-up who aren't doing it for the good of their health. I imagine there has been a fair few quid spent.

I think from a Kildare point of view it happened in the past that a manager threw in a load of U21s the year after they won Leinster and itruined them. But Flanagan is coming up with them and their levels are far above what we have ever had if you ask me. In fact the 'experienced' lads in the county are often the ones with the least football intelligence.

I hope we go up from the top spot, but I reckon Mickey & Co can't wait to welcome us to Tullamore.
