Quote from: ardtole on December 15, 2024, 10:47:37 PMIf a Slaughtneil man had to have connected with a Sarsfields man's helmet similar to the controversial incident I think he would have got a red card.

There was a blatant push on the back by the Sarsfields corner back towards the end of the game, instead of a free in resulted in a Sarsfields attack.

The overcarrying incidents that were not pulled up was ridiculous, at least 4 blatant cases.

I honestly think Slaughtneil were very harshly dealt with.

I thought they were given a fair few soft frees too. If O'Doherty had put them over, maybe it would be Sarsfields lads whining about Owens screwing them. I thought he was a bit fussy but there's no suggestion in my mind that he didn't call it down the middle, the helmet tap/red card incident aside where, as already said, I think if he'd flashed a red, Sars could have had no complaints. I don't think it was a "strike" btw, don't think it was even a jab, more like a careless/reckless wave.
I've seen loads hurling games where ref had huge influence. Today, ultimately Slaughneil left it behind.

Quote from: marty34 on December 15, 2024, 07:55:47 PMI think Shane Mc Guigan should have had a free out at the end. Men pulling out of him and he blew him for overcarrying.

Not a chance.

Both referees today managed to get in the way at crucial points. McGrath blew McGuigan for overcarrying while actually being in the way himself. He was almost like an extra defender. Heartbreaking for Slaughtneil.

Posted that elsewhere at the time. Ref done him dirty imo.

The biggest thing i thought the ref ducked out on, after been told by linesman, was to just give No.6 a talking too, instead a 2nd booking, as he had just booked him. If he hadn't previously booked him, he be given out a card.

As much as some big calls didn't go Slaughtneils way they left that one behind them and they'll know it themselves, the goal chance at the death being the prime example... FFS turn your wrists down.

Free taking wasn't at the usual level either, I think from the first half alone TG4 showed at stat of 5 from 10 and a lot wide at the same side. Maybe there was a bit of a swirling wind, but O'Doherty normally has much higher percentages.
Rodgers inexplicably put one wide in the second half whilst on the run about 40 metres out, really not like him at all and those are the fine margins.

Wee McEldowney was outstanding on Jack O'Connor and O'Connor had to go out the field to exert any influence, but I believe he'll make the Derry footballers senior panel in a few years time sadly. Great wee hurler, just like his left handed Da.

The ref has seen him slap his elbow? Not sure from that as we are face on. Bit harsh
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Tipperary started that trend about 10 years ago.

Wouldn't agree - Waterford in the John Mullane / Dan Shanahan era, serial offenders

Love to see it tbh

Just on the weekends games both pretty poor standard to be honest.

James Owens not sure where to start, it's not often that both sets of supporters come away from a game shaking their heads at the standard of the ref.

Bottled every one of the big calls, failed to call over carrying on Sars on numerous occasions, on one occasion had his hand out and ready to blow the whistle but failed to so and resulted in a Sars point toward the end.
Bottled the second yellow on the Sars 6.

That being said SN only themselves to blame, shot themselves out of it.

If you score a great point, goal or a wonder save, but not for being fouled...

Don't really have a problem with it in certain situations. Maybe defending a lead late on, defender wins the ball, gets fouled and a free out, that's a massive release of pressure.

Context is everything here

You could be fist pumping for a guy missing a pick if the circumstances were right

Armagh18

Sure its good craic, then good craic if some fella has been fist pumping all day ends up losing
