Thanks Boys, sadly nobody in Nottingham talks much about Laois hurling so that's good to know. I suppose im being slightly parochial but I was born near Abbeyleix and it's good to see young Byrne getting a mention. But with respect, they have been around the top 4 at underage level for 8 years and nobody can deny the statistical fact that the Seniors have improved massively as a consequence.
I honestly thought that they would have one or two more men at least good enough to deserve a mention, young Obular for instance should at least be given a cracking at senior hurling as he was up there at underage but I get the sense that he is like marmite love him or hate him. Also quinn was a very good underage hurler. Any feedback appreciated

For all there underage success I think Abbeyleix are still a few players short of making the big breakthrough.  Rowland is a massive part of the team in every sense. What a player.
Lawson in my opinion, aside from his physicality is lacking natural hurling skill to cut it at inter county level. It's a shame because he's some athlete.
Colm and cormac byrne are the real deal and will I hope be part of laois seniors quads for many a year.
Fionan mahoney should definitely be given a chance at ic level. Very consistent over last 2 years and will always die with his boots on.

Other than that in my opinion not much more of IC standard.

Rowland is a good keeper but I will never figure out why we pucked high ball after high ball down on a small forward line in the Joe mcdonagh cup this year.

Verbal

He does the same every time Abbeyleix are hurling.
You often get the sense that he is tricky to manage. Surely management teams have pointed out how poor this use of possession is in reviewing games?

Thanks for the feedback Men. I personally always wanted Abbeyleix to join up with Ballinakill as there's only 3 miles apart. I know that this has previously been tried, but with respect it was over 10 years ago, and a lot has changed since. You correctly pointed out that Abbeyleix are clearly 3 or 4 good hurlers short of winning a Senior County title (1915) if they joined up ( Although I know it won't happen) imagine Cha, Downey, Lawlor and  couple more. They would be a very good team.

If Rathdowney-Errill and Borris- ķilcotton were able to put aside their animosity, quiten those who hate for hates sake, and humbly accept that without a hand of friendship, the only ones that inevitably lose out are the young players who go to school together. Hurling inevitably wins as both of them won Titles. It improves Hurling and that MUST BE OUR ULTIMATE FOCUS. HAPPY Christmas and roll on Westmeath

Possibly the worst post ever on a laois GAA forum.

Thank you for your opinion mcwregor, As I previously stated, everyone has a right to their own subjective feedback. Irrespective of your rather strange analysis on the definition of the term worst. Happy Christmas yall

Does it really improve hurling, though? An amalgamation can give a good short-term boost, but that's about it. You'll end up with fewer teams, fewer clubs, fewer lads hurling. Look at Borris-Kilcotton. Amalgamation should only be considered where clubs will be literally defunct otherwise (Colt-Shanahoe - and what a success that has been, eh?). Personally glad the Abbeyleix-Ballinakill join-up was voted down. Abbeyleix are already getting the Ballyroan lads. However, can see Ballypickas merging with Ballinakill at some point (this being a case of lack of numbers).

Believe Mullaney is due back soon for the county, but Shanahan and Maher won't be returning. Dunphy in there, too - fair dues to him.
