Quote from: burdizzo on August 02, 2024, 10:53:00 AMSeems she was born female, brought up female, etc., but has freakishly high levels of testosterone that make her good at boxing? Don't a lot of very good athletes have something unusual about them that make them abnormally good at what they do? Anyway, I heard Kellie Harrington beat her fairly recently, so it's not as if she's invincible.

Fatima Whitbread anyone???
Indeed. Take a look at the captain of the USA women's rugby 7s.

It's like saying a basketballer shouldn't be allowed to play basketball because he is genetically tall. Some people are that chronically online these days that they will literally believe everything they see on social media.

They pulled like dogs there!

It's been a great Olympics for Ireland.
I remember when Ireland used to go to the Olympics with only a couple of possible medal contenders.

ONeill

What actually is the full story behind that first ban? I'm too lazy to research. Did I hear that they didn't do a gender test?
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

The IBA test was allegedly a DNA test which picked up on Y chromosomes in the sample and she was banned on the strength of that.

The IOC don't do that test.

I'm not an expect on DNA and genetics but it seems that there's certain conditions where females can have Y chromosomes.

Fantastic. The delight on their faces was a joy to see. 2 very genuine characters who thoroughly deserve all their successes. Comhghairdeas.

Huge huge achievement. How often do we get golds or even medals and O'Donovan has 3.

No it isn't. This is a tired and boring argument brought out by the ill informed that was particularly prevalent in relation to Semenya.

There is no protected category in basketball for people who aren't tall, therefore being tall is no reason to prohibit someone from participating.

Women's sport is a protected category, for good reason. The question then is "what is a woman?", a question people have been avoiding for years and continue to.

If Khelif is a woman, (a "biological female") who naturally produces high levels of testosterone, then so be it. If she's DSD, and produces high levels of testosterone due to a genetic abnormality, then it's altogether more murky a grey area, just like the Semenya case. The suggestion has been that she has XY chromosomes. Regardless of her physiology, she absolutely doesn't deserve dickheads on the internet who spend their lives w**king away on Twitter accusing her of being a pervert.

He'll have to change event if he's to look about a 4th medal. No lightweight rowing in the next Olympics so he'll have to look for a new boat.

3 Olympic medals for O'Donovan and back to back golds for him and McCarthy is unbelievable really.

Gallybander

I love how the yanks change the medal table sorting to put them on top. Instead of the top country having the most golds, they are using total medals.

Exciting final round of Team showjumping coming up here. Ireland currently in 4th with Cian O'Connor for final round. Needs a flawless round.

Honestly thought with all the stuff online that Khelif was born and man, in which case in no way should be allowed to fight a woman. However he/she? was born a woman but has a disorder meaning he/she produces much higher levels of testosterone. A lot more of a grey area than a man deciding one day to "become" a woman. Seemingly doesn't have a huge advantage either given that Kellie Harrington beat Khelif at the last games?

Real shame the scheduling doesn't allow Adeleke to compete in team and individual.

Believing all that stuff online is the biggest pile of lazy shite a lot of people do.. The second she says I seen this on tiktok I'm rolling the eyes and walking away!

I can see why the headline confuses people (and guilty at times) but dig a bit deeper and hey presto

Tate makes a clean living off the back of that stuff and people are gullible enough to eat it up ;)
