Were you not around for Italia 90? It was so bad they changed the rules after.

International soccer is in a whole lot worse state than GAA. England, France, Portugal all supposed top teams are absolutely dirt

True. because they are playing with the fear of getting beat. In my opinion the supposed lesser teams have had a real go  and have made the tournament enjoyable.

"For me, this is a tournament of tired teams, tired stars, and I'm beginning to think that in this case UEFA, and in two years FIFA, is squeezing a lemon in which there is hardly any juice anymore."

Jell 0 Biafra

The "lesser" teams made the group stages. Often happens.  They do heroics and go out at the last gasp, or make it to the last 16 and come up against stronger oppo.  Then the knockouts are mostly between teams of similar quality who know they can't go full pelt or they'll be caught on the break.

Two Hands FFS

Portugal get what they deserve for hiring Martinez. He done nothing with the incredible players Belgium had. He has done nothing with Portugal too.

Jell 0 Biafra

This tournament needs a Spain win.  Direct attacking football (though a bit too cautious today after they took the lead).  Would be good to see other top teams deciding this is the way to go.

Absolutely, his agent deserves a medal

Cause that's what lost it?

Jota can prove how good he is at international level from here on in.

I think he's a cracker btw

Ronaldo had very little involvement. Yes, he was a big part in them being toothless up front.
Jota is nearly 28, he's not some young lad waiting for his chance. This could be his last Euro's.
100% Correct, Ronaldo was utter shite, Martinez was worse with his calls / lack of.  MR2 you need to take the fanboy blinkers off.

Worst tournament I can remember

If you care to look back I've been very critical of him, I'm just not convinced he was the reason they are out of the tournament, Martinez is the manager, there was also a player far older than Ronaldo who got less criticism and they lost to France in a penalty shootout after winning their group.

None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

In the two knock out games which went to extra time and penalties he was centre forward and was underwhelming to say the least.Portugal keeping quality attacking options like Jota, Ramos and Felix on the bench to facilitate him was a big part of why they aren't into next round. Is Pepe the player you are referring too?

The manager is keeping those players from starting. That's on Martinez,  Pepe is another player that was underwhelming but gets no criticism.

Ronaldo is past it and playing in those leagues has shown to most that your standard will drop, hence why Henderson left and tried to find form being in Holland, unfortunately for him he couldn't prove his worth.

quit yo jibbajabba

MR2 I'm thinking of starting a thread on your bad takes lolol - Pepe was part of a defence that conceded one goal in five matches, I'm no lover of the man but the effort he put in compared to the CR7 bloke was night and day. Didn't spend his time looking for himself on the big screen nor insist on taking free kicks when his success ratio is none (or one) in 60.

Maybe that's why he didn't get same criticism...

Armagh18

Sad ending for the best ever. Looks like a poor player even though the quality in general is bang average.

He'll pick up another couple of hundred million then probably end up over Portugal in a few years

Ah, there is noting sad about that ending. CR7 has won this competition. It's not like there was an unfulfilled dream of winning it. He was damn lucky to be there, as he should never had been there.
