Quote from: Armagh18 on June 16, 2024, 05:44:25 PMJust looking at the evidence of last year 3 of the teams that came through the prelims weren't competitive, and extra week would have helped abit I'm sure.
But everyone knows what they need to do at the start if they want the week off.
Plus you can't make a judgement based on one year. When the backdoor came in first, there was one year when all four provincial winners lost in the quarters and the narrative was it was great to get extra games as it builds up momentum. Then another year when all provincial winners win the quarters the narrative is reversed. In reality the best teams usually win.

Dubs may be having a little bit of a hangover from Last year's All Ireland win. The Derry league final and today are the biggest games we've played and done quite well but not firing on all cylinders. Not letting Mayo beat us was important psychologically but an extra competitive game wouldn't have done us any harm.

On the one hand I think some of this narrative about 3 games in two weeks being bad is partly because we got 2 rotten draws last year in Galway and Dublin and if one of those was kinder it would be easier to go to the well. But for the underdog seed 2 and 3's to stand any chance against Kerry's and Dublin's you need a free weekend before to prep a game plan. In 3 of the 4 groups this year the seed 1s were settled on points difference, so essentially it came down to how much you could hockey the seed 4 team by. Seems too imbalanced.
Not really in fairness given that Galway and Mayo both knew coming in that a draw wasn't enough and both teams were a point up in the last minute or so and conceded. And point of order in our group we hockeyed the 3rd seed not the 4th ;)

Charge - hope to win a free

Charge - get bottled up and desperation questionably legal handpass in vague direction of a teammate about five seconds after the pass should have been made.

That's been O'Shea's game the last couple of years. Can't speak for whatever shite the cretins are coming out with on social media, but questioning O'Shea's place in the team is absolutely fair.

There was a great tribute today for Maxie Macmanamon (R.I.P) prior to throw in.

Except for the bit where they had music blaring over the PA system for the first 10 seconds of the minute's silence.

.....And the Dubs couldn't get a win in a neutral venue. 👀  ;D
