Only ever saw Simple Minds live in Croke Park and in fairness the place was packed. That said: they were supporting U2 along with REM, Squeeze, The Alarm and the lovely Leslie Dowdall and In Tua Nua.

I'd fire Christy de Burgh into the mix, surely everybody has or had a copy of Spark to a Flame!

(He was def at the Kings hall and was great!)

That was a long wait  until you seen  Knobhead Bono

Would stadium gigs have been as  commonplace in the ,70's and 80's as they  are today?  Maybe  the vast majority of bands  only played  venues like the kings hall
