Did I not tell you there was plenty of quality in the ranks to punch

16 senior internationals, plus a host of gifted prospects into 11 positions, its not rocket science

Carrick knows exactly what to do this weekend, stay compact and play on the break, has worked many times for Utd at the Emirates even with their classic teams
Playing an actual midfielder next to Casemiro and letting Bruno do his damage in his natural position shock horror worked wonders. As BB2 has said though it'll be the games against teams that sit back where the real test will be. Being able to break those teams down  and not conceding goals from basic individual errors will make a huge difference.

There was a line in the Sunday Times - Carrick doesn't hate the players in the way Amorim clearly did. Interesting.

It's a solid way to play to get back up the table.

They do have players who can play that game too. Even Maguire and Martinez can hit decent long balls out.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but you won't be able to play like that against the weaker teams, which has been Uniteds downfall.
And that will be the problem.
Which it has been since Van Gaal's days, if I remember he got results against bigger sides a fair bit.
The Fulham game and the games in Feb will tell us more about where they are really. Great performance and result on Saturday though.

I think it was the intensity in the play at the weekend which was different level. There was serious intent with everything they, if they can do that with the so called weaker teams then the quality should shine through.

It will be interesting.
The problem is we have had these dawns before.

Also weaker teams won't attack them and United can't hit them on the break. Carrick needs a second style for those games. Previous managers didn't
100%. Even this weekend Arsenal won't hold possession to the same extent that City did so it will be a different test. The only hole I could pick from the City game was they missed chances which we have seen has bit us in the ass in other games under the last couple of managers. Saturday should have been a 4-0. They might only get a couple of chances on Sunday so they'll need to take them.
At least there's a bit of hope which I didn't see happening after the Brighton game.

Credit where its due Man United where super at the weekend.  Was surprised at the team selection with no Sesko or Cunha starting and Mbeumbo playing through the middle.  Carrick played with pace in wide areas and as others have said actually got Bruno in his best position and some legs beside Casemiro.

2-0 actually flattered City who put in another sorry show last night.

Cunha and Sesko are somewhat lazy out of possession. Carrick went with legs up top to work out of possession and hit on the counter attack, and it worked a treat with Dorgu and Amad tucking inside a bit in midfield and cutting off space.

Casemiro to leave this summer. He has made a big contribution since he came in. Even with the legs going a bit, he's a still a brilliant player.
A strange time to announce it though.

Shame, would have kept him on with lower wages for another year. Maybe he didn't fancy the paycut. Would wish him all the best.

3 midfielders needed in the summer!

Shows how fickle/clueless most football fans really are. 99% of people clamouring for him to be taken out the back and shot like Candy's dog.

There was a point last year where it looked like he didn't want to play any more but he got himself fit and he's been pretty good this year. They're a lot worse looking without him for sure

The timing is perfect I'd say, no way he is fit for another season at this level. He is fitter this year than he has been previously, maybe because he knew this was on the cards.

Another massive salary off the wages and now no excuse but to rebuild the complete midfield.

Great player, just got him a couple of seasons too late.
