Utd have totally dominated the English league for 20 odd years. The last half a season has been a blip for sure but sooner rather than later they will return to being a top side and I'm sure people within the game know this. Utd are not to be considered amongst the biggest clubs in the world.....Utd ARE the biggest club in the world.

They have just smashed their own transfer record and are scouring the continent for the best players. Form is temporary....

.......but we are not talking about form. Form is what a good ( or very good ) team loses. Is this a (very) good team? Here we are talking of a general overhaul of the squad are we not? Like all 'Big' Clubs United will have to buy themselves out of this 'blip' (as you call it)? And buying the quality United need takes allot of money. Money the Glaziers need for their own back pockets! So being a big club really means nothing if you don't have the readies does it?

Must have been good to win the league last season and sixty five million has been spent on just two players this season. In fairness lessons should be learned from Liverpool when Souness tried to change too much by getting rid of league winners who still had something to offer and poorly replaced them.

Chelsea are making a huge profit on a player who doesn't start for them.

Good business.

Can Mata make that much of a difference on his own - surely not ?

Thats why  Utd are looking to make further signings. If they got a left back and midfielder before the window closes it would be  good going. Still going to be a clearout in the summer.

Mata got player of the year at Chelsea for the previous 2 seasons hence why the fee is big. Jose didnt like him from the off, didn't fit into his system.

When they finally get Mata in with the addition of RVP and Rooney back from injury it will be like 3 new players into the team. If they get someone else in, depending on who they are, well that will be an addition also but any team around Utd fighting for the 4th spot will be worried. A lot to do but a run of form....
I think it's too early to write this team off.

The fee is big because he signed a contract extension just over a year ago, I don't think getting "player of the year" at your club really comes into it.

What are the United fans thoughts of fact the club appear willing to reward Rooney's attempted treachery in the summer with another new contract, complete with a 20% pay rise?

rodney trotter

Really? Utd signed Nani for 20 million, he signed a new 5 year contract in September and talk of him leaving for 15 million

Rooney must sell a lot of shirts.

Giving Nani a contract extension didn't show good logic though, he never deserved one. Mata is a much better player and because of the fact he had a long contract meant Chelsea had leverage. If his deal expired in a years time he would have cost a lot less than £37m

I'd agree he didn't deserve one. A lengthy deal for an inconsistent player

Moyes was apparently chatting with the agent of Toni Kroos at the Munich game last night

The Times journalist Rory Smith made a couple of good points about Moyes being at the Munich match. He reckons it is more to creating an impression of being "active" and the thought that he needs to scout players with the scouting networks, player specific tapes available its a bit ridiculous, and especially if it is a Bayern player, considering how high profile they are.

A lot of managers don't go in the flesh and few make it as obvious as Moyes did last night.

It was Gladback winger Patrick Herrmann who Moyes was mainly  there to watch.? Did Rory not know that. There is only a few days left in the deadline, hardly going to sit on his arse. Utd have no game this weekend so Moyes could afford to go

EC Unique

Talk of a large bid for Luke Shaw. Makes a lot mor sense than Baines given their ages. Exciting time for Utd fans.  :)

I don't think anyone knows if he was there scouting Hermann, or indeed if he was scouting anyone.

Is this the same "talk" when you told us Ronaldo was coming back to Utd last summer ?
