I'm not one to to ever enter a Messi v Ronaldo argument (they've both been magnificent, top 2 players in history possibly).

But at this stage of their careers, whilst it's likely that Ronaldo is holding Portugal back, Argentina without Messi would be little more than a mediocre team with a surplus of cloggers; a Denmark or Sweden.

Most of the teams with one superstar would be . Wales, Denmark etc

Why do they not take a run up, this starting start never end well for defenders in general. Plus he doesn't really take penalties.

Holland lumped balls inti the box when 2-0 down and got back into it.  Stopped doing that in extra time for some reason.  Argentina didn't know how to deal with them

As it turned out the Dutch were less than the stuff of semi finalists, far less than I had previously thought.

I was wondering the same until the last couple of mins of ET when the Dutch just didn't have the legs to come out of the penalty area and make blocks. They were goosed.
