A third of the team from Armagh FFS.

International rules has shown over the years that you need to be physical, capable of taking scores, or both. Brilliant footballer and corner back that he is, it's not a game for the likes of Roarty. Comer is held together by sellotape and can barely feature for Galway. Completely ignoring the lads actually playing AFL is mad.

Purposely did that tbf and picked McQuillan and Glass as they'd been out there playing previously. As for Comer I'd have thought it would be assumed boys are fully fit and for the purposes of this...

Why don't you have a go instead of yapping? It's a bit of craic as I said and not that deep.

Rossfan

Sure why not pick 4 provincial teams to play in the non existent Railway Cup while we're at it🙄
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

I'd rather see the Railway cup played than the Rules  series.

Players  lined out  for the RC last year no problem, so  no  reason why they couldn't do it  every year.

Yeah be something to watch over the winter, although I'm sure boys coming off the back of a long county season straight into club action would rather a bit of time off before getting stuck into the slog again.

True, but  a lot of county  finals have been played, or  will be played shortly.  So plenty of players are  available now, or have  been for weeks.  Play it with  unlimited subs or something so it's not  a complete slog.

Stick Foster and Allen  on at half time to  help bring  in the punters.

I'd be all for it, although being available doesn't mean they can be arsed playing more football.

twohands!!!

I think the international rules is a lot less popular in counties who have "lost" a few players to Oz - was talking to a Mayoman who was saying he hopes the Mayo players have nothing to do with it - between Oisin Mullins, the Hanleys and the rumour that Kobe will be heading there before too long his attitude was that any Aussies who come sniffing around should be thrown in the Atlantic and the GAA is mad to be any way friendly to them. He did make the point that the way other sports specifically soccer and rugby are treated by GAA officaldom seems to be almost at the other end of the scale compared to the welcome mat rolled out for the Aussies - he was of the opinion that the fact that none of the other sports were offering the potential for free junkets to GAA officials like the Aussie Rules were doing had a lot to do with the difference in approach.

There's definitely been a fair few comments from some of the Kerry GAA media folk talking down the game - this is a piece in the Examiner from John O'Keeffe today (which is prehaps no surprise as his club are supposedly losing a seriously promising youngster to Brisbane in the next few weeks.

Not having an International series won't stop lads of 18/19 being recruited.
It's not like Australia is a 6 month sea voyage away or that the Internet  or YouTube don't exist.

GAA players are free agents, not tied to contracts or paid by the GAA.

Yeah it's a real shame that the GAA are losing those lads but it's a huge opportunity for them to earn a few quid and see the world and you couldn't begrudge them.

Some might go and end up doing a few years and coming back and giving plenty to their club and county- Glass and McQuillan 2 obvious examples there

A lot of truths in that post. The  attitude comparison to soccer/rugby is so evident. I've always been a fan of International Rules, it's largely shite but I'd watch it before a lot of other sports. In recent times the series have been tolerated by the AFL as an expensive flag of convenience to access the Irish youth in a friendly atmosphere.

Losing young MacDonald would be a travesty, but there's nothing stopping a Mayo sugardaddy giving him a sweet job on great wages. It's been done and continues to be done throughout the country.

Like who? Kerry have lost plenty and they have good backing . Another Kerry player is on way to AFL in Ben Murphy,. Other then McShane turning it down with Mickey Harte getting him sorted with work, who else?

Laois Rising

I wonder how things panned out does McShane regret his decision.
