Nothing snidely about it. If a man can't make the Swatragh team who are a bottom 6 club in the senior league, how can he be deemed good enough for our county team. Absolutely nothing against the lad but he's clearly not good enough.

If he wasn't Anthony Tohills son would we even be having this conversation.

Let's stop talking shite on here lads. Tohill is a very good player as we saw in the sigerson. He's also a good leader and the very experienced QUB management picked him as captain. He also did reasonably well for Derry last year and was developing. He's more than good enough to play for swatragh so let's cut out all the bullshit. Having said all that Meenagh has made the judgement that he's not quite good enough for the Derry panel at the moment and I for one am satisfied with that judgment. Let's just get behind the lads selected. Roll on Saturday and a tough game against Kildare.

well said Lenny, Tohill is a bloody decent player. Swa, being swa chose to shot themselves in the foot with Tohill last season, and not for the first time I might add.

How someone can be captain of a Sigerson team/former aussie rules player and not make their club team would seem a mystery until you understand South Derry hallions.

Senior County is another ball game of course. Hes finishing medicine so I can understand why would be difficult to commit.

Wasnt on the Swatragh team as he was away on holidays after Derry Season was over last year.

I honestly think that if Tohill hadn't kicked that 2point free that was on Twitter there would be no talk about him. I saw a couple of Queens games and didn't think he stood out.

My personal opinion is that he's short of being a county footballer and can't see a massive argument for him being there, other than people saying he is tall. Has been tried a couple of different years and hasn't made any inroads, and also hasn't performed for Swatragh but people are on here arguing his case.

100% agree, there is not 1 club in Derry who would turn away a lad of his current talent and potential talent.

Yes he divides opinion but sure name one player who doesn't is that not the whole point in debating anything sport related.

Meenagh doesn't fancy him and thats ok but anyone who says he isn't good enough to make a Swa team or any club team hasn't seen enough of him.
Peader O Cofaigh Byrne is an average enough footballer who done a job for Dublin last year, I just think Tohill would be an option for something different.

Champion The Wonder Horse

A couple of recent deaths among the Derry GAA family worthy of a mention here. The legendary Packie Farrell from ballinascreen would have needed no introduction to folk of my generation. And John McVey, formerly of magherafelt and newbridge; still a young man and a superb singer in his youth.

May they both rest in peace.

I would have been from the same vintage as John , it was such a shock to hear that sad news from the states, I remember Packie playing but didn't know him but by all accounts he was a real character
