Hard call a game in that weather but in terms of desire and bite, Derry went bck a rate of knots compared to 2yrs ago. Thats the 2nd year running we started off, looking less fit than the opposition. Wheres the physicality in the tackle, Meath were killing us. We still playing old style tactics cause our full forward line not fast enough, and too many forwards cant take a man on and score. Also they are standing 5+m of their men on kickouts. Midfield needs changed, the day of 2 out and out fballers there, getting outweighted by the 6ft 4/5in monsters winning the ball. Derry very poor on break ball. Goalkeeper just kicks the ball long, and cant pick a man out.

Oh and the Ref missed 2 black card offences with 15 and 5 mins to go.One a high tavkle drag down and the drag down on McKinless by the legs was baffling.

The kickout stats were slightly in our favour and I don't blame the ref. We got a soft free at the end for a pick up off the ground and McGuigan got a 2 pointer near the end that wasn't a free. We lost that game because Meath were a lot more efficient in front of the posts. They were deadly at 2 point efforts off the ground and they scored a couple of monster points against the wind.

But hows it a soft free when it was picked off the ground! Any chance we actually see J Doherty play a game at CHF, he was lost on the wing in the McKenna cup.  Who is our long range free taker for 2pters on the left side? Alot of scores from 2 pt frees these days and we dont score alot of them.

It was 2 inches off the ground when he lifted it

Early days but that was a very worrying performance. So flat for long periods apart from the first 15 in the second half. No early ball into our forward line and no movement inside either which would indicate to me, that Meenagh has no interest in playing that way.
A lack of 2 point options is again a worry after our miserable return last year.
Problems again at midfield where size unfortunately is really against us.
Not sure what happened Murray, but think he's a serious talent and if we kick the ball into him when he returns, he totally changes our attack.

Anyone like to go and find the ratio of hand passes to kick passes for us?  I reliase the conditions weren't great but early ball into full forward line is the go now.

As people have said, this slow build up with hand passing and people coming on loop is what we done a few years ago but it's not gonna work now.

Derry remind me of Liverpool at the minute, slow build up and can't get past a solid defence structure

On a plus Kildare drawing with Tyrone loads plenty onto next weeks game.

If after 2 games we could manage to be a point ahead of Tyrone it wouldn't be doom and gloom. Maybe just gloom.

Meath beat us well yesterday but I thought they were very average team. Sean Rafferty at 3 hoovers up everything but defense is poor. 2 pointers obviously there thing but in Winter football the weather decides if they are an option.

What a depressing bunch of fans Derry have. Some lads here writing off the entire season over one game, arguably the toughest fixture in the entire schedule. Give your heads a shake.

What do you mean the weather decides if they are an option? Meath took their chances at twos, Paul Cassidy kicked a nice one in second half and McGuigan had a go at two or three when game was in melting pot that he missed, difficult as they where. Two pointers are going have a big say in games if they are in January or July, there was 7 in total across yesterday's game with Meath getting 5.

This. Every last thing analysed to the nth  degree by some. Mostly negative

I agree but it the first half I firmly believed Derry were playing against a really strong breeze thats reason for continuously trying to get the ball to 20 yard line before shooting.Meath then come out a stroke over few 2 pointers in second half.
Shane Mc Guigan was blew up for taking to long on kicking a free that on hindsight looks like a shot should have been taken. Winter football pissing rain, big wind and a bog of a pitch I don't think 2 pointers can be the thing relied on to get you over the line.
