Quote from: toby47 on December 05, 2025, 12:42:17 PMHonestly didn't expect to see Derry so low down. But maybe I should have, with participation in the city.

Add into that half the County wouldn't even be too GAA friendly, still wouldnt have thought it'd be so low

It's all about quality, rather than quantity.

It's a rather " irrelevant" stat ...not taking into account the " Orange and Green factor " or the massive difference in the Urban and Rural effect ...

Well done to Glenullin.

Neil McNicholl had a rolls royce of a first half after a slow start for Glenullin with some brilliant points from play.

Their running power saw them through and being able to bring on Skinner who kicked a goal and a few points is some bonus.

Derry winning Ulster club bck to bck at Intermediate, does that not show the original proposed realignment to a top 12/14 league/championship been correct.?

I wouldn't really agree. If all you want is to win things at ulster then yeah, it's doing its job. But if you want to grow and improve the game in Derry then it's having little effect. You basically have a mid table senior team playing intermediate championship. Doesn't actually reflect the strength of intermediate football in Derry. Since the realignment, all junior and intermediate champions in Derry have played their league football at a higher grade. Not sure how that's improving standards at these grades.

Yeah, it should be 12, 12 and 13. Would help drive standards of all clubs.

The Kerry Team a 9th ranked team at this level, they 64 clubs, we bouncing less than 40. It's more a issue teams in the bottom half of the table wanting to call themselves a senior team

If Glenullin were from any other county they wouldn't be in Intermediate football its no real surprise they are winning it. They've won 3 out of the last four, realistically they are a senior team playing in a level below what they should be at.

Yes it brings success and good luck to them but it does diminish the competition for actual Intermediate teams in Ulster. I believe they opted to enter Intermediate level?
Whats to stop other clubs on bottom half of senior league just entering it and trying to steam roll some success. Have Glenullin or Ballinderry or Faughanvale improved the most this year, only time will tell.

You could easily argue that other counties put 1/3 of their teams in each championship at best. Whereas we persist with almost half our clubs in senior football for no good reason. I actually believe this is to the detriment of our club football as a whole.

I don't believe Glenullin opted for Intermediate either, they simply failed to make it past the championship quarter final in the previous season and the semi finalists were promoted to senior.

You might be right, I thought I read on here previously that they chose. Open to be corrected.

Not too many not at it, Tyrone maybe? Down?

Glenullin beat a team who finished 4th in Div 1

The Munster junior winners are a Kerry Div 1 side etc etc

Outside of Div 1,can't see how you would level the playing field

All Derry home football league games are down for Celtic Park.
McKenna cup game at home to Antrim down for Owenbeg.

They certainly did not opt to play intermediate, in 2022 when they won their first title, Derry had started restructuring from 16 teams at senior down to croke park's recommended 12 teams, two teams were relegated from senior and no team was promoted. In 2023 when they won their second (extra time victories in both semi and final) the restructuring continued and two more teams were relegated and nobody was promoted - if memory serves me, paddy Bradley their manager was very public in his disgust at the non promotion. And as others have said, last year, following a vote by the clubs to move back to 16 teams at senior, they lost in the quarter finals when all 4 semi-finalists were to be promoted.
