Quote from: Ryan O on November 11, 2025, 09:21:24 PMIts a forward step for Finnian, not sure its one for Glen, time will tell.
2 years ago Malachy Rourke now someone who was well thought of at Carryduff.
Mattie Mc Glennan taking over Portglenone on paper looks to be a better appointment than that.

McGlennan would have a questionable track record?

Would Glen not be an ageing team now with alot of better players late twenties early thirties? They were hammered in the county semi final last year so the new man will have plenty of work to do.  Based on how the Derry championship went would Magherafelt, Newbridge and S'neil not all be ahead of Glen in the pecking order going into next year?

Alot of ifs especially J.Doherty, there looks to be a lot of competition for places plus the names I haven't mentioned or forgot (Don't shoot me). That would be good starting 15 if all was healthy.

Derryfan93

Good 15 but i think Rogers and Glass has to be the consistent MF pair with big Dan perhaps at whf, rogers still the best all round mf in the country imo, the difference it made against dublin when he came out was unreal, had he played the whole game there wed probably have won

GTP

Anyone know why Conor Glass is described as "from Londonderry" in the clip above? It seems strange for a GAA related interview.

Agree about Glass and Rogers at MF. Dan is a big honest player but don't think he starts if we're looking to push onwards. He'd be there as a backup midfielder for me.
Not sure P McGrogan has got back up to the required level since injury. Looked slow last year and still does at club level compared to other county players. I hope I'm wrong as he's a very good footballer.

Aye, fair point about big Dan. I'd still like to see Mc Evoy at 6. Is Bradley good enough for 3, or maybe Mc Kindless could play there, maybe even Forbes.

For some reason most of them GAA clips YouTube channels have loyalist/unionist names. No idea why

Derry Optimist

It is great to see some posters showing an interest in the Derry Senior team for 2026. With the McKenna Cup probably only 6 or 7 weeks away, I would presume that management are  beginning to finalise their panel.

Whilst agreeing with JB77, I feel that one could add Patrick McGurk, Danny McDermott, Sean Young,Rory McGill, Niall O'Donnell, Conor McAteer, the Downey cousins and Cahir Mc Monagle as worth while additions to his starting 15 and suggested panellists.

The McKenna Cup could be used to see if all of the above players are good enough to become permanent members of the National League panel.

I would also like to see Ryan McBride brought in as cover for the injured Odhran Lynch. I believe management  should confine, from joining the Senior panel,  the very talented Fionn McEldowney  and Tommy Rogers until the end of Derry's interest in the 2026 U20 campaign. I think  that there is a good chance of winning the U20 All Ireland if the best players are always at the disposal of the U20 management.

If they are all fit and available I would suggest the following as our  best U20 side.

Jack McCloy
Fionn McEldowney
Finbar Murray
Rory Small
Cahir Spiers
Cahal McKaigue
Luke Grant
James Sargent
Tommy Rogers
Eamon Young
Ger Dillon
Johnny McGuckian
Conal Higgins
Ciaran Chambers
Oisin Doherty

I really can't see Mc Grogan being at 7 the game is too fast out around the middle although the last few weeks for Newbridge hes getting closer to his previous standards. Great to see

1. Scullion
2. Mc Grogan
3. Mc Evoy/Bradley
4. Mc Closkey
5. Mc Kinless
6. Doherty
7. Forbes
8. Glass
9. Rogers
10. Ethan Doc
11. Jack Doc 🤞

Anyone know when mckenna cup draw is and when first fixture is due to be played? Have to say im really looking forward to seeing Derry again. I have a good feeling about us going into 2026 especially with that new management team. I fully expect us to return to similar levwls of 2022 and 23 under Meenagh. Looked at some of the previous posters team selections and i think its possibly our strongest ever panel to date lads. Heres my stab anyway at a 26 man panel and this is without the u20s like Tommy rodgers, eamon young, sargeant, oisin doherty etc

1. Scullion (lynch injured)
2. Bradley
3. Mcavoy
4. Clucky
5. CD
6. Gareth
7. Forbes
8. Glass
9. Rodgers
10. Paul cassidy
11. Niall odonnell
12. Ethan
13. Shane
14. Lachlan
15. Loughlin

16. Mcguckin
17. Baker
18. Paudi mcgrogan
19. Dan Higgins
20. Toner
21. Gilmore
22. Patrick mcgurk
23. Mcfaul
24. Danny mcdermott
25. Sean young
26. Jack doherty
