Derry Optimist

As they have four of the six members of the backroom team connected to Draperstown in one way or another, Ballinascreen club players will have no excuse if they are not selected on the Derry Senior football panel!!

Seriously speaking one would hope that Ryan Scullion is recalled and that Marty Bradley will be fully fit for 2026

Well outside the fact that they poor. Derry had alot of men injured last year. Hope the case not the same this year. There was room for Gilligan there, not sure why they didn't approach him as part of the backroom team. Maybe they did.

Think I heard a few years ago that Gilligan had no interest in taking Derry. I suppose it would be a tough job when it's your home county and he's maybe just more comfortable taking teams elsewhere

Predictions for the weekend Senior games?
Any upsets on the cards?

There is nothing to suggest it won't be Glen, Magherafelt, Slaughtneil and Newbridge who get through. Glen will have too much for Banagher and ease to a win. Bellaghy could out score Magherafelt but I think Rossa will hold them well enough to win a relatively low scoring match. On the basis Lavey couldn't get past Magherafelt I'm not sure they have enough improvement in them to get past Slaughtneil. And the comparative performance of Newbridge and Steelstown against The Loup suggests a comfortable Newbridge victory.

Tiarnan Moore is certainly on form it'll be interesting to see him operate against a capable defense that will be out to completely neutralise him

Owenbeg fit to take all these senior matches, it's been dry this week, but some rain the week b4.

Is anyone giving Steelstown much of a chance? Theyve gotten plenty of rest and good scoring options. Newbridge could come in with their tails up (like against Dungiven) and be caught out?

Other games I see going Glen, Magherafelt and probably Slaughtneil. Ive no idea what to expect from Lavey.

The training pitches behind the stadium are brutal at the moment

Magherafelt v Bellaghy      M'Felt -3
Slaughtneil v Lavey        S'Neil -10
Steelstown v Newbridge      N'Bridge-8

Unfortunately I anticipate a weekend of dead games and clean slate of favourites wins.
Banagher will have a go but fall away, Bellaghy a maybe but still unsure what Magherafelt have, Paul Cass being fit is key.
Lavey could have done with an easier draw before meeting one of big two.
Steelstown need to show more than they have done already.
