Unreal. We're setting up well for next season.

First season never to win a game in a long time. As much as confidence in Tohill is not great. Tally played him in most of the league games and in a actual game where we were getting murdered in midfield, surely he should been tried against POB

Strange to not win a game but have some optimism for next season. Feel like we aren't a million miles away. Hopefully Rogers and McKinless both available next year and Lynch and Clucky fit.

My main criticism of Tally is that it took him far too long to get things right. Some of the changes in tactics and personnel were obvious. I think he did get it right in the end though.

Probably a lot of things could have been done differently. I'd have brought on Forbes earlier, pushed McGrogan back to 3, McEvoy to 6, and Rodgers into midfield. I'd have thrown Tohill into full forward and brought Loughlin out to help win break ball. Easy said from the armchair though! Honestly my wish for this season was to get back to a good competitive base, and I think we've done that. Results weren't what we'd hoped for but we weren't going to win an All Ireland this year. Next year though 😀

While results-wise and, on more than a few occasions, performance-wise its not been a great season, always a sticking point with the injury list. Thought Conor McCluskey's cameo showed just a glimpse of what we've been missing there, and with Gareth McKinless in surely Brendan at midfield wouldn't even be a question (felt we missed his engine and attacking threat for that first 40-50 mins with the role he had), that and also Lynch potentially gives us more on the kick-outs.

Not to make excuses for the season but think the squad deserve a decent degree of sympathy. Some questionable management decisions throughout the year too but I suppose to some extent if you don't try, you don't know - and considering this year of new rules there were and to an extent still are a lot unknowns.

On a side note, thought Niall Loughlin was excellent today.

This is the first season in 3 years we haven't graced Croke Park in either a quarter or semi final of the All Ireland series. I wouldn't necessarily say we are pissing away a generation. McEvoy is 22, McCluskey 26, Baker 25, McGrogan 26, Glass 28, Ethan Doherty 23, Paul Cassidy 25, Lachlan Murray 22, Shane McGuigan 27.

Some of those ages might be a year out but you get the jist. Only really McKinless, Rogers, McFaul are over 30 and they still have a few years in the tank.

Nxt year we must blood another keeper foreby Lynch. Regan a big tall lad so he's gonna have to get games nxt yr. This year will be remembered as a yr of Goalkeeping fiscao, from early doors in the league.

It is a weird feeling coming away from a game where we are out and haven't won a game all year, but feel some optimism. Some huge misses for us this season, Clucky and McKinless showing they are essentially irreplaceable. We should have put Galway to the sword, that was the one that did us in the end.

Feeling positive for next year though where hopefully we dont get anywhere near as many injuries and our top men stay fit. It will be a long wait though. Today we lost the game on kick outs and if I would have one criticism of Tally it's the lack of kickout strategy. Maybe hire a kickout coach for next year who can work on making us more efficient.

All in all a year that will be forgotten.

Mc Grogan back to 3 to mark who? To be honest and I got slaughtered on here about 8 months ago for it but he too far off the speed required and has become more exposed with the new rules. No doubting his commitment to Derry, he bit more old school hard hitting defender but 10/20 yard speed needs some serious work over the winter. Long term in half back line Forbes looks to be the option.
Only criticism I have of Tally is it takes him far to long to see things and make big call on changes. Cleaned out in midfield but we kept on going, Rogers completely wasted at full back marking Con. Baker was having a good day, Clucky looked sharp when came on both options go pick him up.
I expect him to stay but theres changes required to that backroom team a forwards coach, amd perhaps someone who fires an odd rocket up them. I'm forever an optimist but you can't sugar coat not winning a match.

Agree with a lot above but if we didn't have Rogers on Con how much more damage would he have done? He's too good to leave him to anyone else.

The last 2 performances have been very creditable and highlight the fact we've had a lot of injuries all year. While the league was a bit of a shit show, with a better panel we've been competitive against 3 of the favourites for the All Ireland.

We've blooded a few lads this year who can cope at this level namely Higgins/Bradley/McGurk and I'd hope we can get a few more up to speed in Div 2 next year.

We really need to get another keeper and a competitive midfielder. While Tally gets some credit for the last few games the disaster with keepers and Tohill this year has cost us relegation!

Aside from that I'd give him enough credit to stay on. Firstly there's nobody available that is better right now and secondly the players have responded the last 2 games so hopefully with a preseason and a chance to look for new faces on the club Championship I think k he's worth sticking with.

Hopefully it'll put the Gallagher nonsense to bed. It's consigned to history and fantastical notions of him coming back and leading us to glory need to disappear! From both players and the County board.

All in all I'm disappointed but positive for next year.

Brendan

Division 2 isn't going to be as easy as the last year we got promoted from it

Bro Jolly

Positive signs of life if not results. Galway game has ultimately cost us another day out.

Although we didn't get the break of the ball after some great tackling Dublin were always in control of the game given the amount of kick outs they won.Until they unearth a Peadar-Coffey Byrne or adopt a proper kick out strategy Derry will struggle.

I get that Con is their marque forward but surely Tally should have thrown caution to the wind earlier in the 2nd half.

For me in the post-match interviews  Tally lacks charisma and has thrown the team under the bus on occasions which is questionable.

Dress it up what ever way you like.

The hard facts are Derry didn't win a game this year.

Surely Tally and his back rooms team position is untenable.
