Wasn't a game for standing out, more of a chance to get used to the new rules. Won by 8 or 9 points but the result wasn't important. Shane, Rogers (number 6), the 2 Cassidys, CD, McFaul some of the more established players who played some part.
McGrogan number 2, Charlie Diamond, Jody McDermott, Patrick McGurk, some of the names got game time. I think young Magherafelt player. Played half forward for Magherafelt but can't mind his name played 2nd half. Not sure who the keeper was in the first half (Glenullin keeper maybe??)
Cavan mande more use of the 2 point arc than Derry for sure.

Not a bit mad Shane nd Rogers playing?

Should they not be kept fresh?

Do they not have to get up to speed with the rules too? And get themselves, as part of a team setup for the NFL?

Plenty of time for that. They'd learn more by watching  game or 2 first.

Just played a AI club senior hurling semi-final a few weeks ago. Never got much of a break.

As if we don't know what the 2 of them bring.

Mad stuff.

7 new rules, amendments to existing rules, Tyrone in 2 weeks and you think these boys should be watching matches?

Shane and Brendan are both fantastic 'professionals' in terms of their application, attitude and ability.

The have a high level of sporting IQ so they'll have no problem adjusting to the new rules.

But don't worry, let's flog them and burn them out.

Are we the 1980s or would the players output be monitored these days?

Galway two weeks ago, Cavan yesterday, coal mine stuff

If, and I'm not sure you do, want the 2 boys playing against Tyrone in 2 weeks, they'd be lining up with their team mates for the first time in almost 7 months if you had your way. And, obviously trying to bed into a new system that the rules dictate on the cuff...now that is sensible

I'm hearing they're strict about keeping it behind closed doors, but if you rock up to celtic park or wherever I doubt anyone is going to be there to tell you to clear off

jb77

I imagine that's it for preseason anyway

According to that report Cavan only beaten by 2 and had a number of 2-pointers as opposed to Derry's 1 x 2-pointer.
McGuigan held scoreless.
Cavan 6 goal chances.

Perhaps a biased report, but it sounds like we have work to do.
The 2 pointers I feel will be our single biggest issue - we don't have those long range scorers and it's really difficult to stop the opposing team if they have the ability to score from distance.

Conor Doherty, mcfaul, Paul Cassidy, Mcguigan, glass, Murray....all decent from longer range.

Are slaughtneil the only senior club without a manager?

LoughNeagh

Any idea of how a potential line up is shaping for the league?

Looks like our club senior championship is finally moving back to straight knockout according to the draft fixtures. Glad this is happening at last, and we can get rid of a few meaningless games.

Seen the season plan for the year and didn't click onto that, knowing our county board it'll be changed soon enough

GTP

Are they fitting in relegation play offs for the 8 first round losers if it is straight knock out?
Not sure it is great for a club player to train for 7 or 8 months and have their only meaningful game be a championship defeat.

Yea they have it down for the 8 losers to all play off against each other, with the eventual loser dropping down to intermediate championship for 2026 (separate from the league).

While we all agree the groups stages had to go, it don't think straight knockout is the answer either. Best way would be to have one second chance or back door like we had a while back. Avoids the tedious groups stages, every team guaranteed at least two meaningful championship games, and cuts in half those who would be in the relegation side of the draw (only those teams who lose both the first round and the back door enter relegation).
