Also effectively close down large spaces in front of the Derry defence !!! ... they surely  have learned from the mistakes made in the Donegal and Armagh games.

We know they have missing players but that in itself is no excuse ... they need to have Westmeath well analysed and prepare accordingly ... No excuses.

And 'Horse Devlin' needs to treat all the players with respect and not be shouting at them from the side line like animals.

Our players are not getting paid
Poor Derry lads getting shouted at by that big bad Tyrone man ::) .  Gallagher was arguably the most animated Gaa coach you have ever seen but his behaviour on the line would never have been questioned.

I think if anything the past few weeks have demonstrated that we don't need to win Westmeath's kickout let them have it!!

No point in having everyone fully pressed up if we're going to lose the ball anyway in our own half and concede a goal chance.

We need to go back to the negativity in defence at least until we get our confidence back!
Harte clearly didn't learn anything from Donegal game but is the malfunction on the kickouts solely down to him? Rogers/Glass have been lauded as one of the best midfield partnerships in the country were totally wiped out by Armagh round the middle. The tactics employed by Harte were not questioned when Derry were rolling over teams in the league, is it a case that the middle 8 are not doing the job that they had been previously.  The turnover in players in that sector due to injury and suspension doesn't seem to have helped.

No issue with kickouts and the highline until the Ulster championship. Workrate has dropped dramatically for whatever reason  8)
We're going from the team who played with a real dynamism, as close to Dublin as you'll see to a team who'll have to revert back to a 15 man defence and try and win a slug fest. I've a real feeling we'll be back in the saddle big time on Sat night, minor wobble, nothing to see here, as you were, up Derry, up Harte and Horsey D

Wildweasel74

God forbid Rory Gallagher didn't shout at anybody from the line lol

Can't see the 15 named, starting tomorrow.

Clucky McKaigue Baker
McFaul McEvoy Gilmore
Glass BR
Doherty Bradley Cassidy
Mulholland McGuigan Murray

Hard to see McEvoy starting as he seemed to be limping along the sideline at the Armagh game. That's the third game they've named him and he hasn't even been togged in the previous two.

Who replaces him if he is out?
Don't need any more shuffling about of players, I'd rather a straight swap with someone on the bench if needed.

Conor Doherty or Shea Downey straight swap with perhaps McFaul to CHB or Niall Toner into the forward line and Eunan Mullholland going back. An extra forward seems unlikely so likely C Doherty.

I would have thought no point naming McEvoy on the team if he wasn't available, if he was named on the bench and starts he gives the team and whatever fans are there a boost. If he drops off the subs bench everyone accepts he wasn't fit and shrugs their shoulders. Only Westmeath benefit if he doesnt start having been named on team.

I agree but that's what they've done for the last two games. Some sort of mind games? It doesn't hurt anyone other than Derry.

If C Doherty was fit enough to start, he'd be starting, 1 of the first names on the teamsheet
