1 Championship start between everyone on the bench, and it was Dan Higgins the last day out.

We've known the panel was thing the last few years, this is a new low.

That's crazy when you think about it. Outside our core 12 or so starters its pretty much rookies. We have good talent coming through but need a proper setup in place to get them game time over the next couple of years otherwise it's rince and repeat of boys leaving the panel.

That's where the McKenna cup is a huge loss.
Off the top of my head missing players include - Clucky, McKinless, Lynch, Gilmore, Bradley, Murray. Then there's Murphy who I'm guessing is injured? Have the Downeys gone off the radar completely?

There's 6 starting players currently missing - which brings 6 off the bench into the starting team. Fully fit we've a decent bench too. Unprecedented the volume of injuries to so many key players at the same time over this last year and a half.

With the players drafted in now getting experience and hopefully those injuries clearing up, we should have a better chance at things next season.

That's where we are, and that's what these next three games need to be about. Giving these younger lads a chance and hopefully trying to build on that going into next year. I'll be happy if we can be anywhere near competitive while trying to build a decent panel of players.
I think the split season means you have no continuity from one season to the next. It makes it very difficult for any manager or county to build a panel. Armagh have benefitted from years of continuity in management prior to last year's All Ireland win, Derry most certainly have not. Seven Division 2 national league games and maybe three championship matches next year, whilst making sure you don't go down to Division 3 and or the Tailteann Cup does not leave much room for experimenting. It won't be a problem for Derry alone, but I don't see how where the opportunity to rebuild or re-enforce a squad will arise.

Champion The Wonder Horse

Jack Cassidy off to Kentucky.
Best of luck to him.

Whatever happens tonight we need to see some tangible improvements. Our kickouts and defence have been a shambles throughout the league and the Donegal game. We need to be harder to play against, bring more intensity and our key men need to lead by example. Tally needs to show that he can get a performance from this group and the players are playing for him.

This is the worst I've felt about a Derry team in my life time, at least between 2014-2022 we expected nothing. Questions need answered with what has happened this team and potentially writing off all the good work that has went into the phenomenal underage success of the last 5+ years

Underage success doesn't matter.

Look at Armagh and Donegal.

The goalkeeping problem is killing is, so easy to read his kickouts. Higgins should started Midfield. Toner way to small, run at him multi times. Not enough scoring input from forwards. Tally let Armagh take short kick outs all the first half. Still zonal marking, and Conaty was not man marked, unbelievable. Again stopped playing 20 mins through the 2nd half then big push at the end when there too much in it.

Armagh bench surprisingly didn't have a impact outside Turbo. Derry bench mostly lads 19 -22 outside Mulholland, they played rightly. Derry need expand the panel for nxt yr, there's alot good lads coming. But if a better manager pops up before nxt yr I take him. Derry went 4/5yrs now and have not nailed down a consistent long range free taker.

Who would have thought when you run at teams and press them hard you get rewards, first quarter of both halfs was absolutely shocking stuff.

As harsh as in may sound but physically small men have no mission in any defense at inter county level.
Marking men with your back to the ball is a unbelievable bad sign of any player.
Ethan Doherty and Paul Cass were super, Ruairi Forbes as good as we had after that.

Anyone who seen the warm up would have been worried, flat, slow contactless then Armagh hit them like a train.

"A new low". A disgraceful comment.

It looked like absolutely nothing was worked on regarding kickouts over the past 7 weeks. It was like groundhog day all over again with the kickouts absolutely killing us all game. Throw in the fact that we also gave them so many easy short kickouts, we were always going to be up against it.

We had so many goal scoring opportunities in the 2nd half which we just weren't clinical enough with.

Thought Ethan Doherty had a very good game which was great to see.

Anyone know what the free was for around the midfield in the first half? Think it was for a breach but Derry took the free from where the breach occurred rather than being able to take it up. Also had a point ruled out in the 2nd half for over carrying which seemed very harsh.

If the breach is "accidental" it's a free from the half way line.

What happened after that was so frustrating a bad pass to McGuigan from the free which he spilled when he should have caught it and then Armagh get a 2 pointer.

Ethan Doherty was back to his best which was great to see.

As everyone has said I just can't understand why we let Rafferty get so many shorts away, baffling, and ours are just 50/50 contests.

Said the same about the warm up too. So lethargic, night and day compared to what they used to be like. I was fearful before game but we did ok 1st half against slight breeze
