South Derry mentality is well justified, Steelstown the biggest city hope have been really poor since moving to senior championship football, struggled past a very poor Loup team and there only win since moving up that I can recall.

Coaching underage and being in various Derry underage groups you dread the unfortunate call to head to North Derry for go games, minus perhaps Glenullin and Dungiven. Poor quality, low numbers, pitches not ready teams dropping out at a days notice. Its not a talent issue it a commitment one.

I see Austin Stacks who Ballinderry beat are comfortably into the Kerry senior final.

And Crossmolina who only beat Ballinderry with a last minute goal should be in county too getting beat after ET in the semis.

Is Derry football that strong?

Beat Banagher in the relegation/promotion play off in league then we're in the Championship relegation playoffs offs which were cancelled as Drumsurn elected to be relegated. Missing a player as good as McKinless the whole year though

They exist, my statement requires no adjustments.

Clubs in North Derry have smaller numbers by nature, mainly due to the population. I actually admire the commitment of people to keep their clubs going with smaller numbers. Something people in bigger clubs sometimes can't comprehend.

I was at a school over within 2 miles of Steelstown pitch and they got 28 classrooms of children, unreal, I say to the principal(who had zero interest in football) If we had that down south in my wee tiny club we be winning senior championship. The big primary schools in Derry have never been properly approached to promote GAA in them. Bigger interest in soccer with the majority doing no sport at all

+1

No problem getting people to take underage teams where you will regularly have 25+ youngsters at every training / match.

Newbridge Exile

Over the moon just over the moon, back to back for the first time since 66/67 ,it's an unbelievable achievement for that group of  players and the management ,

Brendan

Fair play to Newbridge, Senior championship and league titles for their Seniors, reserves and 3rds, incredible feat.

Also credit to the County board for finally listening to calls to promote our games seriously a real effort went in this year which I've enjoyed and we'll done to the lads at Derry Gaels putting in a mammoth effort there

Derry Man

Sean Young & Conor McAteer bound to be asked into the county setup, 2 serious footballers

I have always said it; if the county board put proper promotion into the GAA in the city, they would reap the rewards.

Always thought this was a strange mentality honestly, South Derry boogeymen taking all the county spots is still the mindset I suppose

So........ explain why?

Well done Newbridge. Silenced all the doubters (myself included) that the reigning champions were not the best side in Derry. Back to back is a serious achievement. Hopefully they can give Ulster a better crack this year.

On Magherafelt, they definitely didnt give their best performance today. They looked much better against Glen and Lavey. But maybe thats testament to the work rate of Newbridge that they can do that to teams. And neither side is going anywhere any time soon.

Dunloy game not nxt Sunday, maybe no benders after the nite.

The 77 in jb77's username is the amount of finals he's played in / coached in at all levels. Showing any class towards another club is a sign of weakness... Fine margins

Really enjoyable senior game today , 2nd half was a serious battle. McGuckin nails that monster free...... Congrats to Newbridge, 2 on the bounce.

Ulster double header @ CP on Sat week
