QuoteWhat odds were Offaly in 82?

Since they were Leinster champions and losing AI finalists in '81 probably not rank outsiders! ;)

screenexile

Clare when they last won the Munster football cship must have been crazy odds!!

Donegal were 20/1 to win the senior All Ireland in 2012. That's the longest odds I recall on a senior All Ireland winner in the last ten years.
I had tyrone at 28/1 in 2008. I think a few got them at 33/1
Which bookie gave those odds? I recall Tyrone around 6/1 to win the All Ireland in 2008 with Paddy powers.

Clare were after getting promoted to division 1 and were straight into a semi final against a poor Tipp team, so they had only one big match to win.
This year Tipp are in div 3, start at the 1/4 final stage and will have to beat both Cork and Kerry and are 25/1 do can't imagine Clare being much more than that.

All teams odds are going to lengthen once they've lost their first round, similarly with in-play odds. I was talking about longest pre-tournament odds.

I remember those odds of 33/1 alright but I think it was part of a double with Tyrone minors winning the All-Ireland as well

Kildare were minus 5 to one in 98. There was so much money on them. It was like the bond markets these days. Galway must have been 25/1 as a result.
Similar story in 2001. Meath were unbackable. Leinster money, tsk.

If Kildare were 1/5 to win, best odds you probably would have got would have been Galway at 5/1 (and a draw at 9/1).

It was actually negative. If you won you had to give the bookie money

I was talking about the longest pre-tournament odds I recall in the last ten years. Going back further I don't recall the odds however I would imagine Down had long odds going into 1991 championship.

Unlaoised

LAOIS to win the Leinster in 2003 was 16s if I remember at the start of the year is shortened dramatically when they got to the League Final against Armagh I think....
LAOIS ABÚ

Canalman

Sadly, I cannot think really of anyone coming from absolutely nowhere to win an AI in football or hurling at senior level. Laois won a NFL from Div. 3 I think.

Some surprises like Meath in 96, Clare maybe in 13, Galway possibly in 98 but none  can be said to be complete darkhorses.

How the championship could do with such a county winning. Even a county like Monaghan, Laois, Antrim or Wicklow  winning their first ever AI.
