Say you had the money to establish a GAA museum in your county. What local legends and laochra
and triumphs either of finals or of the will would you include in the museum?

I think it would be fantastic to go up to Cavan say and spend an afternoon reading about the
great players who won 5 all Irelands .

AZOffaly

We'd have a wing dedicated to the Offaly families. The Furlongs, Lowrys, Whelehans, Dooleys, Connors.

The iconic 1982 jersey, and the Seamus Darby dance machine.

The 5 minute final.

And a special sit down area near the door if you feel your visit has been cut short unfairly.

Armagh would include all the All Ireland football wins so
Senior (2002), Junior (1926), u21 (2004), Minor (2009, 1949) plus NFL victory in 2005. Also the 1953 and 1977 final appearances which inspired future generations. Add to that all the Ulster Championship wins across the different grades as well as a section for our 24 All Star awards.

There is a small but proud hurling fraternity in the county so those exploits would be included: Nicky Rackard (2010, 2012), All Ireland Junior Championships (1978, 1979, 2000) and 6 Ulster JHC.

I'd expect a healthy section on club football featuring perennial winners Crossmaglen along with traditional powerhouses like Armagh Harps and Clan na Gael to feature and possibly Mullaghbawn.

Also being a northern county there would be a small section on the troubles and the effect it had on the GAA locally and how it surived

Longford GAA musuem already there. Here is the most recent picture:

Galway would have 2 wings one for hurling and  one football

The Football wing would have pictures of people like Tull Dunne and the various generations of Donnellans and rich presentations on the scatter of all Irelands and interactive videos and everything

The hurling section would feature psychologists talking about dealing with loss and an intimate guide into the clubs and who doesn't get on with whom.

As well as a section devoted to infinite underage and club success with a psychologist talking about dealing with unrealistic expectations.

Obviously tributes to All-Ireland winning teams at all levels (including clubs) would be included.

An All-Stars section: For the various winners, and maybe nominations from more barren eras.

Laochra section: Josie Munnelly's medal haul would probably top this list. Then your legends from each era.

Club section for county championships.

The troubles: Pushing cars around the car park and the H&C no confidence motion. (Only joking before I get flamed). The War of Independence is very well chronicled in The Road to '51. In one case you had a Mayo player shooting dead a former Mayo team mate.

After that post, you might need to save this thread from being overrun by them!  :D

Although they mightn't bother looking into a museum thread.

We would have a special room dedicated to our 10 All Ireland winning teams of course.
A very special room for Dermot.
A little sectioneen for the hurly crowds' titles.
A corner for the Syfín family.
Then a rogues gallery on dart boards of every Co Roscommon man from Ballagh who ever betrayed his citizenship by playing for them fcukrs.
I must check with the ROSCOMMON Co Council to see if they could reverse the sewage flows to the houses and shops of such traitors.

We're going to bring home the SAM

Does it go back beyond 2003? :P

In it's defence, as far as football goes, it's basically entirely focused on the club. So yeah, it goes back a few years before that  :P :D

A museum to Mayo GAA  would include a tribute to all the all Ireland winning teams at all grades .

A big section on the team of the 30 s who captured six league titles on the bounce (league specialists) and Sam Maguire in 36 .

The 50/51 winning teams would also get a section .

Special players like the great Tom Langan would have to get a spot too accompanied by the words of the ballad of Tom Langan .

All stars too would have a section .

And finally the great team who won eight in a row of nestors 2011- 18 and two all Ireland's of 2016/17 would get a big section  too.
Walk-in down mchale rd , sun out, summers day , game day . That's all .

We could have a pretty good museum in Down.

But we wouldn't. Instead, with one eye on costs, we would probably just erect a banner outside Pairc Esler that is etched with our famous slogan of "The Down Way". There'd be a collection box not too far away for anyone wishing to contribute.

Shrewdness

larryin89, you forgot to mention the Section in Mayo's museum , called the ''Hall of Shame'', which commemorates all those bottled All Ireland Finals, and displays photographs of all the culprits who caused those meltdowns, such as referees, Co Board officials, Mayo managers etc.
