Wexford forward Rory Jacob retires from inter-county hurling after 14 seasons with the Yellowbellies.

This is Jacob's official statement through the GPA:

"This decision has not been made overnight and is not an easy one to make but time away from home and family, the strain of training and matches on my body, the ever increasing amount of hours needed to prepare properly and the fact that my game time has decreased have all played a major role in my decision."

Ruettiger 'Rory' Jacob (born 11 October 1983 in Oulart, County Wexford) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Oulart the Ballagh and has been a member of the Wexford senior inter-county team since 2002. Both his father Mick and his brother Michael also played for Wexford. He was captain of the Wexford team for 2008.[1] He holds strong political views and has considered filling a niche in the Irish political scene by founding a far right party.
