Any of ye at this game and what was the standard like? Probably not the two teams that people would have thought would have been in the final.

Good win for Portlaoise despite the horrible ground and time of year for it. The standard was poor but entertaining nonetheless. Couldn't get over the amount of players that were allergic to rising the ball with 2hands: many a time a lad goes over with one hand and makes an absolute hames of it!

Portlaoise had the better quality over the field: 2 Lynch's Taylor and Aaron Bergin hurling well in particular. All town lads tried hard to be fair so hard to leave anyone out. That diving save from Roche with 5 mins to go was the winnings of the game. Pulled away at the end and Portlaoise could have easily went for goal at the end but Taylor took sensible option  and put it over.

Abbeyleix weren't too bad the 2 half backs and Martin Scully at full forward played well. Rowland with the goal from penalty spot. Had some good glimpses of play but the town do what they do best: grind out results.

Good boost for town first u21 win since 2000 I think. I'd say Borris KK are still kicking themselves after losing 1st round.
It's hardly possible to build anything if frustration, bitterness and a mood of helplessness prevail
