Corafin had no gameplan there today, maybe they were expecting Castlebar to role over, credit to Castlebar and a very good high tempo all round performance, im sure Corafin supporters are wondering was Rochfords heart in that game today, he was very slow to make changes and when he did they did not work, the team played like they were very poorly prepared and had very little discipline, maybe Mayo county board will not be so quick to appoint him on that performance or maybe the players wont approve.
interesting times ahead.

You are basing Roachfords worth on losing a Connacht final  v Mitchels the year after winning an AI title. Would you make the same level of establishing McStays worth based on the same facts in 2013 (ie losing a Connacht final  v Mitchels the year after winning an AI title)?

You are proving yourself to be the biggest idiot on this forum with a statement like that and it is exactly what I would expect from you.

You'd have to fancy them after today.  They have beaten the current AI champs and the team that beat the last AI champs from Connacht from 2 seasons ago. They have nothing to lose and can have a real go at it.  They have pedigree at this level with their COnnacht win in 2013 so maybe they can go one step further

Club is very hard to predict.

I recall a couple of years ago when Dr Crokes were continuously winning Munster and the expectation they were under to go all the way. They had proven class inter county players like Gooch, Brosnan, Fitzgerald, O'Donovan and more. But never got over the line.

And this years club competition will be just as tough and hard to call. Possible proven big names returning to contest like Crossmaglen and Nemo. With these back in the frame for consideration anything is possible.

I think McStay left Brigids after winning the All Ireland. Mayo seniors need a manager that can stop them from conceding 2 or 3 goals in key games is Rochford the right man to do that?
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

McStay stepped down for work reasons immediately after the AI final in 2013. Benny O'Brien was manager when Brigids lost to Mitchels in November.

Good luck to Mitchels in the AI.

Fair enough!

I was fully expecting a Corofin win today but fair play to Castlebar, they came with the hunger and game plan needed to beat them. Barry Moran and Tom Cunniffe were superb for the winners. Rochford was very slow to make changes today I thought, it was plain to be seen Greg Higgins wasn't up to the pace of the game, Daithi Burke should surely have been brought in earlier, the same with Cathal Silke. Anyway, the rest will do them good and I'm sure we'll see a few of them in the maroon for the league this year.

Even though we felt we should have been ahead at ht, anyone I spoke to felt we looked better and would win if we took the chances. And boy did Duggie fairly took his chance when it came!

We quickly played a sweeper after that and Corofin didn't look like getting the goal they needed.

Commiserations to Corofin. They were great Champions last year and their supporters contributed to a great atmosphere in Tuam.

I won't be posting here for the rest of the night.  ;D ;D

Or if I do I ignore it!

It might be timely to suggest that players, not managers, win and lose games. Effective managers will have the blocks in place but heart, hunger, discipline, intelligence and leadership on the field are the defining qualities if you factor out luck. Castlebar were well served all over the field but the leadership shown by Eoghan Reilly, Tom Cunniffe and especially young Durcan in the backline, Moran in midfield, Feeney, Douglas and Kirby up front made all the difference. Corofin owe nothing to anyone and the difficulty in retaining a title can't be overestimated. On the day the players they looked to last year were struggling. Sice was immense last year but quiet today. It was great to watch a match played at a high tempo and not destroyed by the mania for blanket defence. Best of luck to the Mitchels and Stephen Rochford. 2016 will be interesting.
