QuoteThe Dublin team to face Longford in Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final has a new look to it with three players primed to make their SFC starting debut at Croke Park (4.0).

David Byrne (Nh Olaf), John Small and Brian Fenton have been selected by Jim Gavin's management as injury concerns rules out Rory O'Carroll, James McCarthy and Cian O'Sullivan.

In total only seven of the team selected to begin against Longford this Sunday started against Donegal in last year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final - Stephen Cluxton, Jonny Cooper, Philly McMahon, Jack McCaffrey, Paul Flynn, Diarmuid Connolly and Bernard Brogan.

The eight who began that day against Donegal not starting this Sunday are: Mick Fitzsimons, Rory O'Carroll, James McCarthy, Michael Darragh Macauley, Cian O'Sullivan, Cormac Costello, Alan Brogan and Eoghan O'Gara.

So is this a B team or a B and a half team or whats the story?

With this weakened lineup Paddypower have cut the handicap to 10 points

Just kidding - tis now 16 points.  SQUAD DEPTH BHATCHES !!!!!

Tommy Murphy is dead and gone......

Question: Why didn't the GAA have a double header last weekend with both Limerick and Clare meeting each other in Football and Hurling?

Question: Why are the GAA having a double header this weekend for the Dublin football and Hurling teams?

Because in Munster, counties have pre arranged home and away agreements. Last weekend, the counties with the home advantage didn't want to give it up, just to facilitate a double header. The home and way agreements mean that they can't be forced to.

In Leinster, no such agreements exist. The counties that comprise the Leinster Council vote on the venue for games. They usually vote for the venue that will bring in the most amount of money for the provincial council, hence the double header being in Croker. The 12 Leinster counties vote on it jointly. They aren't forced to do it bv the GAA in HQ, or by the Dubs. It is decided on at provincial level.

Wexford and Offaly have home and away arrangements in the Leinster championship.....

Yeah, but Dublin, Galway & Longford don't and they are the counties playing tomorrow.

Answer : - shagging useless provincial councils which only exist to provide jobs for the boys imo.

Provincial councils made sense when it took a horse a multiple of days to reach the capital ; in an era with phones and email, they only exist for willywaving ego and to give jobs to da boyz.

A world of problems within the GAA would vanish if the provincial councils were abolished and there was a central body running everything.

However the fact that a world of positions for the committee men would disappear at the same time mean the odds of this ever happening are vanishingly small.

Really don't like the look of that Dublin back line. Small is a huge talent, but one for the future. Not a huge fan of Davey Byrne either, think he tends to get pulled out of position a lot. Darren Daly is another who has been knocking around for a long while without really breaking through. Obviously, i hope they all go great, but I think our fabled strength in depth is going to be tested tomorrow.

MDM and Cian are big losses, although I was really impressed by Fenton during the league - well able to take a score, and it's good to see another big Raheny midfielder knocking about - I hope Big Blue himself has been giving him tips.

this could be a little bit more interesting than the bookies think - I'd certainly be anxious if we were going down there to play.

Wildweasel74

Some difference Dublin getting Longford for a starter game, and Donegal getting Tyrone.

SHEEDY

This is a prime example of why the championship structure needs a revamp.
nil satis nisi optimum

twohands!!!

Fair play to Longford

Forwards in particular doing very well

The space their defence is giving the Dubs is unbelieveable stuff.

Wildweasel74

Shoulder into the back there, ref must been wearing blinkers there
