A mutual friend once told me a Paul Flynn story that is appropriate in the current environment. He met Flynn for lunch and they were having dessert when some random came up and told him "you shouldn't be eating that". Not a jury in the land would have convicted Flynn had he rammed the dessert into yer man's face.

Paul Flynn was never the most svelte of sportsmen, but in fairness I think he would have made it back to the halfway line in the two years since he had last played in Thurles...

Sorry, I was thinking of 07, which now that I think about it was a semifinal and under Justin. Was a bit confused as that match was an utter barrage of forward play.

The games against Cork in the Noughties blend together into one insane pointfest. As I mentioned previously, we've given enough entertainment to the bloody neutrals. Time for some puke hurling and Liam McCarthy coming across Rice Bridge.

Yup, I couldn't tell you the difference between 04 and 07, or what happened in either of them. Was Flynn's 938 yard free in 04?! I'd actually completely forgotten about 2010 altogether.

This got me thinking. If Cork don't win the AI this year, they won't have done so for a decade. Huge for a county with that history. No worse than Tipp though I suppose.

Impressed with Waterford... They could have wilted but well on this game, with the wind behind them they will at least be thereabouts at the end
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

I predict Galway to get over Waterford. Waterford have been playing against a lower standard and will struggle to step up.

Great win for Waterford. I don't anyone would have predicted us to get to League final at the start of the year so looking forward to another game v Cork now.

Roashter

Yes, very good win for Waterford.
They showed an awful lot more hunger than Tipp and got some great scores.
Dublin faded very badly against Cork but Cork did well to get the win. Should be a good final now.
Interesting to see how both teams will approach this now given they will play in 1st round of Munster.

That Div1B is a bollox alright!!

Two very good games yesterday though the Dubs will be kicking themselves for letting the two goal lead that they were holding onto slip in the last few minutes, although you could always sense Cork would take one of the many chances they were making, took Paudie to do it though!

Dubs have a decent balance about them, didn't see a whole pile of Liam Rushe close to goals though. Pete Kelly, who in my mind is the best full back about at the minute was a mixed bag, got in some great blocks and flicks, but the bread and butter stuff was a bit flaky, struggling to rise and catch basic balls a few times.
Cork were really struggling in the first half and the amount of space they left in front of their full back line made life easy for the Dubs who proffered. They closed that space down in and around the 25 minute mark and it was far more competitive to the end.
If ever you needed to know that a 6 or 7 point lead isn't safe in hurling it was yesterday. Once Paudie O'Sullivan came on and got the goal, Cork kicked on and the Dubs lost momentum. Thought the ref could have played a bit more after Cork got the winning point, well according to the TG4 time there was still a few seconds left. Still a good game though!

The second game kinda followed the same format of the first, with Tipp dominating everywhere but the scoreboard, and Waterfords defence holding on for dear life. Once the Waterford lads got up to the pace of the game, they kicked into gear and were matching Tipp toe to toe. It looked as if Paudie Maher was sweeping and Waterford trying to avoid him by sending clearances down the sidelines or into the spaces. Waterford were using the ball intelligently, stick passing rather than trying to run through men and getting turned. It was working well, but in the back of your mind you were waiting on the Tipp forwards to click and win out, but it never came, Gleeson had little chance with the Waterford goal as it came at him blind through the legs of a defender, although he does look a bit slow to get down to the low shots!
Kevin Moran got through a power of work and was bolloxed at the end, always liked him as a player, has carried poorer Waterford teams than this in recent years, and is now surrounded by some very good, confident youngsters.
This year won't be Waterfords year, but they'll be there or there abouts in a further few years if they are able to keep producing out of the juvenile ranks.

On the ball which hit the corner flag, is that deemed to be a sideline ball? (Edit, Kelly was indeed right)

;A ball that strikes a sideline or corner flag shall be treated as having crossed the sideline.;

Also,
Do the Tipp lads not know you need to be 13 metres from a sideline puck, Kelly gave them two chances at it?

As for the championship, its pretty open, hard to see Kilkenny being the force they were, but they're not out of the running, Tipp will be stronger, but won't be feared by anyone of Limerick, Galway, Dublin, Waterford, Clare or Cork.

Still think Wexford are a bit below that, but can still cause an upset or two along the way.

There's a bit of a trend developing with Dublin. They lost their composure in too many areas when the game was there for the taking. Cork sniffed their fear and took full advantage of it.

Tipperary weren't much better in that regard. Waterford played really deep and suffocated Tipps forward line.

True,
One of the Dublin forwards shot from a ridiculous angle tight to the endline when a run on and/or a ball pulled back out to the support would have been the better option. They were still leading by 4 points at that stage, maybe being a bit showey, but it ended up costing them!

Loss of Danny Sutcliffe badly felt . Unfortunately the substitutions made didn't work out.
Thought management very slow to make two obvious substitutions until too late when the momentum had swung against us. Then again the subs put on didn't make any huge impact either.

All the same have to be happy with the league overall. Dublin by and large are hurling well with skill and touch levels improving.

Didn't see that Waterford win coming.

Sickening defeat all the same. Could be the making of this Cork team.

Like 2013, I think this year's AIHC is wide open. Any one of 8 teams will fancy their chances.

Nice to see Waherford doing well.
A year with the big 3 subdued is always welcome.
The vampire cat also needs plenty of garlic.

A more clinical team will expose Corks back line I reckon. The league final is hard to call though.
