"The CIA repeatedly misled the White House, Congress and the US public over the torture of suspected al-Qaeda terrorists, according to a damning report by the Senate intelligence committee.
In a fiercely critical assessment of the CIA's use of torture in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, the report concluded the agency's interrogations were "far more brutal" than it had told policy makers or the public and were "not effective"."

Jeepers Creepers

White House knew exactly what was going on.

How ineffective it was is the big thing. Didn't make one bit of difference.
They did a deal with the Devil and the Devil didn't keep his side of the deal.
Also makes it easier for ISIS to behead Americans now. Torture makes them less safe.

Does anyone honestly believe the torture wasn't as much about revenge for 9/11 as gathering intelligence?

I'll have to report you to homeland security for that comment. Nobody should die like that.

Rectal feeding . Jesus Christ.
And anyone who objects obviously hates America.

It certainly reduces the value of America attempting (rightfully) to police certain other countries for human rights abuses

Would the Brits have been involved in this level of torture during the same period??

Torture was pretty much beyond the pale in the West for a long period from the end of colonialism up until 2001.
The Yanks may have used it in Vietnam but not after AFAIK.
