Republic of Ireland international Stephanie Roche has beaten out the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to be nominated for the FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal of 2014.
Roche is the only woman on the ten-person list for the prestigious award. She was recognised for her wonder-strike for former club Peamount United against Wexford Youths in the Bus Éireann Women's National League.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport, Roche, who now plies her trade with French First Division club ASPTT Albi, said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for FIFA's best goal of the year.

I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Lets give credit to the girl was a class goal.

However number 10 is the best one for me out of the bunch.
Ibrahimovic's goal also noteworthy for its uniqueness but his goals are so freaky now they are sort of cliched

Some great goals there - technically, Rodriguez's was probably the most difficult, but Stephanie Roche gets my vote.  Women's football is making good progress here - this might get it some more attention.

I'd say Roche's was more technically difficult due to the second touch lifting it over defender!

Generally for "best goal" awards, I factor in the stage, setting, opposition etc so would normally give to James or Cahill but think Puskas award is for "most beautiful" goal or something similar, so would love to see Roche win.

That was some strike. Normally with the ladies football, I find the goalies are brutal, but in that case no-one could have saved it.

It's well worth being in there, fair play to whoever at Fifa had the wit to include it.

I think I'd go for Stephanie Roche's goal out of the ten. Some great strikes but she had a couple of good touches to create the opening before a cracking strike.

I'm sure it wasn't included because Sepp Blatter was at the match. Shorts not short enough.

It was included in the 'Unbelievable Tekkers' slot on SoccerAM in the week it happened, so there was lots of exposure for it alright.  On Sky anyway.

I think ESPN covered it as well
A cracking goal

Last one is the best with Roche second, heard her this morning saying if she gets in the top three she will be invited to the awards. That should happen
