Good appointment for Westmeath and Hanley has left Ryan has a good foundation to work with, can see the hurlers doing well this year.

Westmeath have always been able to attract decent managers every once in a while, the likes of Tom Ryan etc, etc.
Must be for the fishing  ;)

No, nothing substantial, just the usual bullshít rumours, Mickey Wing, Mickey Johnson and a way outfield one of Andy Comerford, the ex Kilkenny hurler...

I don't think we could afford the first two  ;D

Hanley completely underachieved with the hurlers available in the county.

He discarded too many experienced players, which annoyed a lot of clubs, trying to promote younger hurlers. No county would do such a thing especially with such a small pick, as in Westmeath. Then the one game that would have made it a successful season was lost - U21 semi final v Dublin.

I presume these young hurlers he was promoting were also involved in the U21's, if so how would that have done anything other than improve the U21's chances v Dublin, which they were unlucky to lose, albeit Dublin were then well beaten by Wexford, but a Leinster final would be a big thing to Westmeath hurlers.
