Really looking forward to the Brigids-Tubber game. One of first really big inter-county club games of the season. Both will have designs on the All-Ireland, nevermind the Connacht title. Brigids and Tubber's county form has been stellar this year. Paddy Mulvihill has added an extra dimension to an already very good Brigids attack, he can play anywhere from midfield up and tracks back and wins a lot of dirty ball from his default position of FF.

COC is probably the best player in the country at winning soft frees (that's said both ruefully and admiringly) and he's automatic on them when he gets them. Discipline will be key for both sides, though, as Senan and Frankie are quality free-takers themselves.

Hopefully Brigids' wealth of experience at this level will tell when this game comes down to the final ten or fifteen minutes.

COC didn't get a handy free all day and I don't know where that quip about being the best in the country at winning them came from.
There were several soft frees given yesterday, and they went in favour of Brigids.
A great win for Ballintubber, goals at crucial times, and responded brilliantly whenever Brigids came at them. Have now beaten the 2013 AI Finalists, 2012 AI Champions, and Corofin up next!

The ref was wise to COC yesterday but the lad is very like Gooch in how he wins frees, grabs an arm, lets a shout out of him like a bull in the process of being castrated and falls down in a heap. Lots of forwards try it but few are as effective at it as COC. It's a talent of sorts but one that infuriates the opposition, you can trust me on that one..

On a different note I loved the respect COC showed to Cake after the match, and vice versa. It's what the GAA is all about. No handbags, just brothers in different jerseys.

Congrats, Tubberman.

I've noticed that about other players, but not Cillian to be honest. Padraic Joyce used to drive me insane grabbing a defender's arm and the ref bought it 9 times out of 10.
It was nice to see that between Cake and Cillian alright, Cake is long enough on the road to be able to see the bigger picture and take the defeats graciously.
Frankie still has a bit of pace I must say, more than I thought, fair play to him :)

Well that's a matter of perspective ;)
It's the 2014 club championship now, which will have it's final on Paddy's Day 2015.

This is the ultimate circular argument.

Hurler on the ditch: He is brilliant at getting soft frees.

Random supporter: Is he? He didn't get any soft frees today.

Hurler on the ditch: That's because the ref is wise to him.

Really bad for the Willie's. But Corofin must be some out fit. Will they take the Mayo boys?

Corofin have been hammering everyone so no shame for the Leitrim lads in that. I believe it was even a competitive enough game for the first half but Corofin scored something like 7-9 in the second.

I would have Corofin as slight favourites alright but the game is in Castlebar and Ballintubber have had more difficult games. Well the last two at least. That may stand to them if it's a dogfight.

Corofin were always let down in other years by their lack of quality forwards. They were always very solid everywhere else. This year they probably have the best set of forwards they have had in recent years. No superstars but they can all score. Ronan Steede has been outstanding for them in midfield. I would be shocked if Kevin Walsh doesn't call him up to the Galway panel for the league next year.

Interestingly enough Corofin are managed by a Mayo man. Stephen Rochford who played for Crossmolina.
