Down were nervous, a lot riding on this game for them. Had they lost it wouldve been a disaster.  We kicked alot of wides in 1st half and a missed pen and great goal cgance in 1st 12 mins. The fact we had wverything riding on this game and wexford really had no pressure, led to that 2nd half. Thankfully Wexford werent good enough to make Down pay.
Job done, massive work to do to get close to Donegal in 4 weeks time.

LosDodgers

Yeah a lot of nerves yesterday and a few bad wides...that can happen at Croke Park. I wouldn't be overly critical, it's job done.

Out of 90 mins we were the better team for 65 mins. I think this team does have its limitations but they show real fight and pride in the jerseys and that's something supporters should be very proud of.

Thought McCormack had a good impact considering he has played very few minutes in the league.

I did get the sense last night that Down's OTT clock management and safety first approach, was more of a run through for Donegal, than out of respect for Wexford.

U20s suffered a serious beating tonight at the hands of Tyrone, although its not a shock because this has happened regularly at underage level for guts of 10/15 years now bar the two u20 teams of Murdock, Magill and that group played on. How can we be so far behind at underage level? And is there anything being done to help us catch up?

snoopdog

No coincidence Laverty was in charge for those 2 ulster U20 titles. Hste to say it as its a tough job but the ciaching realky needs looked at.
Down cant be that far behind every other county in Ulster.

Our underage lads are not competing with the top ulster counties. We are lagging behind and have been for sometime. I would say our senior teamn actually is overachieving based on the quality of talent from our conveyor belt. The couple of u20 ulster titles in receit years seems to have been a freak set of results. Hopefully this level of performance can improve in the coming years as there is a lot of work being done.

LosDodgers

We won 2 U20s titles because we had a Generational player in Odhran Murdock who came through an incredibly successful underage Burren team backed up by a handful of 'good players' with a very good management team.

It's actually completely embarrassing how far we are off other teams in Ulster at Minor & 20s.

I get that the main thing is player development and getting 3 or 4 lads into the senior set up but we need to be far more competitive...success breeds success!

Your county board has just published a result where an under 14 LGFA team lost a game tonight by 93 (ninety-three) points. That is a shameful thing to do.

Dont think you can blame a county board for that, its the referee who putd the score into the system, hes the one would need to use a bit of common sense

We won an u14B game up the county a couple of years ago by a distance. Not 93. But by a lot.

I asked the ref afterwards to make it more palatable when publishing. To be fair to him, his immediate response was that scoring difference might matter for league positions. But we agreed to chisel it down rightly.

County boards aren't responsible for the commonsense needed in these situations.

I remember beating Bryansford by more than that back in the day at a not dissimilar age.
I'd say everyone else on the team probably remembers it too.

The ford fellas might have banished it from their memory right enough!

But at the time, everyone walking off the pitch didn't need a website to tell them it was a one sided hammering. So no point getting too precious about it.
