Was thinking earlier about Steve Davis and Hendry - who is/was the most dominant champion in their sport as an individual. I know about Crossmaglen and Burt etc but in terms of individual sport who is up there?

I'm sure there's a 20-year champion somewhere - maybe road bowls in Keady or ploughing.

Gotta be Phil Taylor.

I could go and look such things up, but from my youth I remember that Jansher Khan, Jahinger Khan in squash, and Ed Moses in 400m hurdles, were unbeaten even longer than the average GAA board argument about politics.

There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Phil Taylor - 9 years? Or more?

Think Joe Davis had a 15-year run.

T Fearon

Borg 1976 to 81, unbeatable, well at Wimbledon anyway

Santino

The Undertaker 21-1 at Wrestlemania!

trileacman

Fantasy Rugby World Cup Champion 2011,
Fantasy 6 Nations Champion 2014

The Iceman

FMW in the boxing world....
Jon Jones right now in the UFC at Light HW with Jose Aldo at Featherweight - both undefeated. Demetrius Johnson at Bantamweight too has been unstoppable since he took the belt 3 years ago.
But across all combat sports FMW gets my vote

Great call on Kilbane.

I particularly like this: Kilbane was a distant relative of the Irish boxer John Joe Nevin, the footballer Darren Fletcher, the wrestler Giant Haystacks and the Irish footballer Kevin Kilbane. His family was originally from Achill, County Mayo, Ireland.

That is quite a pedigree.
