You just didn't like it Nally cos it was one of your own, three of the "top"four candidates with the worst attendance records were from Sinn Fein.

Is it ok with you people being able to see this information ?

Some more highly selective and creative twisting of a piece of research which reflected well on SF councillor's attendances as a whole. Hope youre going to be watching the news intently over the next couple of days  ;D

Unlike yourself I will probably be out and about  ;D
I'd say you will. I can just see you now. After hearing about yet another SF seat  ;)

Almost didn't vote
Jeez it was hard finding candidates to vote for

I voted for 4 people
On three ballot papers( I know - but I just couldn't fill out any number beside any of the rest of them!)
Took me ten mins to vote where normally it takes 2

We need new candidates and parties

Dublin is in, although I think a recount has been ordered. Brian Hayes seems to have made it, but the Greens Eamon Ryan is the one who has looked for the recount. Sinn Fein topped the poll, in Lynn Boylan, but still had to go through 3 counts until the elimination of the People Before Profit before making the quota. She was on 83,264 (a huge 23% of first preference), but only attracted 1025 transfers from combined preferences of Thomas Darcy and Raymond Whitehead of the Direct Democracy Ireland movement, Independent Jim Tallon and Damon Wise of Fís Nua. When Bríd Smith of People Before Profit went out, she got a got chunk (5475 out of 23875). That put her over the edge.

The race for the other 2 seats went to the elimination of FF's Mary Fitzpatrick after the 5th count, which put Nessa Childers (IND) and Brian Hayes over the top. Eamon Ryan just didn't get enough of Fitzpatrick's transfers.

In Ireland South Brian Crowley of FF has been elected with a big surplus of 50k. He's a great vote winner down South for FF. Liadh ni Riada is only about 6,000 short of a quota herself, so she's in good shape. A trio of Fine Gaelers are next up, with Sean Kelly a good 30k plus in the lead from the others. He had a right lash at Fine Gael leadership about the way the campaigns were run. Even invoked the 'I'm from a GAA Background and we do things honestly' position. Anyway, he'll be grand. Simon Harris holds a 4k lead over Deirdre Clune for the last seat at the moment, and Phil Predergast of Labour looks to be on the way out. Around Tipp her posters were in blue and yellow, with very little of the Labour Red in them, but she seems to have met the same fate as the other Labourites.

Ming tops poll, but doesn't make quota

Also Gilmore expected to resign. No loss.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Ming is just over 5,000 short of the quota. Should be fine though. Matt Carthy is second with 115k 1st preferences. Will be interesting to see if he can pick up enough transfers, but he surely will. I'm not sure how much he'll pick up from the first batch of excluded candidates though. Fís nua, 2 independents, Direct Democracy Ireland and the Greens, wouldn't be the most left leaning. Fís Nua and the independents maybe. Lorraine Higgins from Labour is only on 9th place and likely to be eliminated next off (after Ming gets elected probably) and her votes should help Carthy get over the line.

After that you'd say Mairead McGuinness and Marian Harkin would be favourites, but if it stays going long enough, Fianna Fail may transfer enough to see Pat The Cope or Thomas Byrne elected.

When Byrne is eliminated, Pat the Cope will be well ahead of Harkin, I suspect.
It is a case of Ming replacing Harkin, the real change will be the Shinner getting in.

That's what I mean about it going long enough. Mings Surplus when he gets elected, plus Carthy's, plus the eliminated independents and Labour might all help Harkin. I think it will have to go quite late for Byrne to be eliminated, but you're probably right. Unlikely to fill all 4 seats before that happens, and if he's the last one out, his votes will help the Cope.

Are the first count figures in? Any chance Byrne gets ahead of the Cope? If he does then it could be interesting with the Cope's transfers.

Hopefully Harkin survives. One MEP from the troika is enough.

AZOffaly
