Ipad problem

Ipad has gone on the blink just 21 days after the guarantee expired. A hardware problem. They want £169 to repair it. Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

I brought it to the Genius Bar at the Belfast shop. Problem is with the display which just goes blank.  It like something you'd see an old style TV doing
