In 1995 Ross Carr predicted it would take 10 years before a Connacht team got to an all Ireland fuball final.

So thats
1996 x2
1997
1998
2000
2001
2004
2006
2012
2013
Ya might want to take the last 3 off...

Why?
They've got nothing to do with Ross Carr's prediction....

True.

Also 1996 Mayo only 'got to an all Ireland fuball final' once (i.e. won a semi-final), so you can scrap the x2.

Nope, by not losing but also not winning the first final Mayo qualified for a replay.

Nope, the best you could possibly argue is that they qualified for a final replay.

You qualify for a final by winning a semi-final.

You don't 'qualify' for a replay. In the League you have a win/draw/loss and in the Championship you have a win/loss. Replays are merely an extension of the contest to determine a winner.

And did Ross Carr say: it would take 10 years before a Connacht team got to an all Ireland fuball final - REPLAY?

I remember watching the 96 Mayo semifinal wondering if Ross was tuning in, the arrogant bastard.

Yeah, I read that in my travels around this subject. The next line in the piece - "Well, Kerry always give the answer to the critics in the best way possible, on the field of play" - is precisely why I'm sceptical. Funny how people who claim their team does all their talking on pitch are the ones who never seem to shut up.

Apropos of nothing, I'm wondering is the Matt Leen who wrote that piece the same Matt Leen that is mentioned here :P

And taking the piss out of Conor mort and Ciaran mac at ht during championship clash with Galway in Castlebar. The Swedish milkmaids went out and destroyed Galway in the second half with exhibition football.

Yeah, forgot about that. One of my favourites!

Joe Lennon in 1968:
"Kerry are 30 years behind the time and won't win an All Ireland for another 30 years. "
Kerry won the next 2 All-Irelands and won 10 in the next 18 years.

Are you sure about this? A Kerry lad here claims it was ten years. I'm not trying to be awkward, but it sounds a bit too good to be true.

No doubt it's true in Kerry, but everybody else should use a good dose of salt. Lennon was a scapegoat figure and the target of many a Kerry myth.

Bord na Mona man

Before the 2002 Munster final Babs Keating predicted that Waterford fans would be leaving the ground with 10 minutes to go.
Some may have been because they beat Tipperary by 8 points.

In 2004 before Leinster final he turned into Eddie Hobbs telling punters that backing Kilkenny at 1/8 to beat Wexford was the surest and easiest way to make an instant return on a lump sum. Wexford grabbed a shock win a week later he was explaining that he knew all along what Kilkenny's weaknesses were and that he wasn't surprised by the outcome.

He also dismissed Cork's chances in the 1990 Munster C'Ship by saying "donkeys don't win derbies" and Cork went on the win the All-Ireland, defeating Tipp by 8 pts in the Munster Final.

;D   I didn't know that one.
But I know enough not to trust a Kerryman as a source for anything accurate about Joe Lennon.
