"while shepherds watched their flock by night.." I can picture it now your descendants on a future jao meebollix show.. 'my great grand father sang carols in the protestant cathedral in Waterford yeah he played a big part in the history of this country jao'

maybe my relation wasn't a vice vice president  as such. but he was a man of note who played a significant role in that administration and did some great work for the people who voted him into office and your petty sniping cannot change that.

for my part I'm quite happy to that someone in my family left poverty and starvation and did well for themselves. the ruins of their old house are still here and I can tell you they didn't come from much.

Seeing as you don't tell us who your ancestor is, it's hard to tell what their contribution to history was. Maybe your ancestor was Aaron Burr or John C Calhoun or Elbridge Gerry. Feel free to Google them and find out for what they are considered noteworthy.

Besides, based on your posts I'll put my personal contribution to history ahead of yours any day.

Or he could have been a right cnut and never got caught. That ancestry stuff is a load of balls in fairness. I won't ever impact on your life. Worry about the here and now.

I'm always curious to see how the person featured on Who Do You Think You Are? reacts to finding out an ancestor of theirs was a bit of a git. They're usually upset about it. Are they worried it's hereditary?

The wife's family are from Whitecross on her Da's side way back in the mists of time. I had a sneaking suspicion she may be a far out relation of Willie Fraser and when I questioned her Da he was neither able to confirm nor deny as his lot left about 100 years ago. Might be worth further digging - if that's not grounds for divorce I don't know what is!

my mother in laws people were English and came to Ireland as rent agents for the local estate owner.. they put more poor people out of their homes than any agent before or after their tenure. they were so harsh the people of the area to marched collectively to the town centre in protest. a local priest and police had to escort them out of the county for fear they'd be murdered. not sure how they were allowed back, but big knob estate owner sacked them.

My son's maternal g-g-g-grandfather helped JB O'Reilly to escape Australia by supplying him with a boat and food for several days as he awaited an American whaling ship to come by off the coast of WA.

Had a fella in the States here recently inform me that I wasn't really Irish as I came form County Down to which I replied that my family have been in Ireland so long that we were here before the Irish arrived - Glad to say, that made him hiccup - I didn't tell him, but the first record of the family name was in 623, around Clonmacnoise
That awkward moment - Not sure if you do have free time or if you're just forgetting everything!

Check out the names of people who signed the Ulster Covenant whilst living the southern counties, such as Dublin, Kildare, Limerick, Meath, and also Canada and China.

Also check out your own surname, and then hang your head in shame, lol.
