Trillick and Coa same parish but one in Tyrone, one in Fermanagh. It works, folks grow up used to it. Coa by far the most successful. :-).

If you use Crossmaglen as the centre point you have Castleblayney about 8 miles away, Toome 4 miles, Oram 8 miles, Iniskeen 7miles, Donaghmoyne 8 miles, Blackhill 8 miles  Culloville 2 miles,  Silverbridge 4 miles, Sheelagh 3 miles, Cullyhanna 5 miles, Dorsey Emmets,7 miles and that is probably not all of them.  Covers Louth Armagh and Monaghan.

You often hear people talking about Crossmaglen being a big club with a big pick and a big catchment area.  It's not even really a town, more a large village in a very rural area.  BC1 has just named 11 clubs within an 8 mile radius.  Just shows you what a great club they are to continually be at or near the top of Irish sport.

Would all Cross players come from the area or a few outsiders?

Of the current squad there are 3 who transferred into the club from other clubs and didn't come up through the ranks. Of those 3, 2 have direct links to the club/area with parents having lived here/played for the club but moved away.

And an 8 mile radius should include Mullaghbawn, a 9 mile radius would bring in Forkhill, Roche and Kilkerly.

Greenlough (Derry) & Portglenone (Antrim). Couldnt be anymore than 3-4 miles.

Cargin V Bellaghy?
Newbridge and Cargins pitches would be a little over 2 miles apart

There can't be too far between Warrenpoint and Cuchulainn Gaels in Omeath, across Carlingford Lough.

the nearest clubs, and senior at that, across county borders. must be gracefield and portarlington. they are based in the same town, grounds less than a mile apart. I have no idea what the dividing line is for the two counties or clubs.

North Longford

QuoteArva is on the border of both Leinster and Connacht, Dromard and Colmcille in Longford and Carrigallen in Leitrim.
ah rodney..where the 3 provinces meet. not a nicer place in the world!! The local soccer club even takes its name from it....UCL

North Longford

And actually in Arva (which is a small town) when it comes to catchment area they really have a very small area to pick from. They are about 2 miles to the Leitrim border and about 1 to Longford (and there are only a couple of houses in co. cavan on these roads), If you then consider how close to the town the catchment areas of Gowna, cornafaen and Killeshandra (actually part of the same parish) come then most of the players either come from the town itself or within a couple of miles of it.

Lots of clubs in Cavan along the border of Counties Meath, Longford, Monaghan,,Westmeath Leitrim and Fermanagh. Arva is on the border of both Leinster and Connacht, Dromard and Colmcille in Longford and Carrigallen in Leitrim. Mountnugent is 5 mile from Oldcastle Meath.

Colmcille v Gowna is probably considered the derby in North Longford/South Cavan - they've shared managers and tend to play warm-ups to get ready for the championship.  Not sure they've ever met competitively.

Kileeshil and Emyvale meet in the Ulster JFC final this weekend, with just 10 miles separating both clubs.

Has there been a case of two teams from different counties meeting in a provincial/All-Ireland competition that were closer in proximity than these two clubs?

And what two teams would be the nearest to each other than could meet in such competitions?

From the top of my head, I thought of Ballinderry v Ardboe or Moortown, Moy v Collegeland, Aghaloo v Emyvale. But I'm sure there are closer clubs straddling county boundaries than that.

The clubs in the Intermediate match would be almost as close.
The Emyvale and Kileeshil pitches would be a 16 mile drive apart while Eskra and Truagh would be a 19 mile drive.
