Tyrone 95/96 should read Peter Canavan 95/96 some serious passangers on that team. Tyrone of the mid 80s were a great side and could or should have won it in 86. How many sides have been up by 7pts with 20 mins to go in an All-ireland final only to be beaten by 8 pts. Had Tyrone been playing anybody else that day other than the greatest team of all time they would have won it. That had to be the biggest comeback in an all-Ireland final.

If Roscommon 1977-80 is in the poll, then Armagh 1977-80 should be in it as well, as they actually beat Roscommon in 1977, and ran out of steam in their semi final of 1980.That team contained 4 All Stars, Moriarity, Smyth, Kernan and Mc Kinstry, as well as Brian Mc Alinden who was nominated as goalkeeper on the team of the 80s recently

I agree, who could ever forget Paddy Mo & Dingle Daly? It's the first AIF I can recall watching. There was great excitement at an Ulster team making the final.

I was replying to OP who was comparing that Kerry side with the ones in the 70s,80s.

Kerry in the early,mid 00s were unable to beat Tyrone or Armagh. Armagh were a very good side in 1977 and 1980. Kerry in 70s,80s were the best teams ever.

Got hockeyed in the final in 77 and made the semi in 80 - hardly up there with the best team not to win an AI.

They were as good if not better than some of the Mayo teams on the poll list.

Tyrone 86 had 5 all stars in it and one of those ended up with 3.

McCabe, Lynch, O Hagan, Donaghy and Mc Kenna x 3

Tyrone 95 had 3 all stars

McConnell, Fahy Devlin, and Canavan x 6

I was at the Dublin v Tyrone final in 95. It's the only final I've been at when the best team didn't win so it has to get my vote. Canavan was a bit of a one man show that year - a few fairly average players around him.

Offaly in 1960 and 1961.

Down were reputed to be the greatest team of all time to that point and proved it by handing heavy defeats to Kerry in those years.  Down had the innovative roving forwards, overlapping half-backs and they 'broke' the ball at midfield. 

Offaly held those Down forwards to 1-10 (1960 semi-final drawn game), 1-7 (1960 replay) and 3-6 (1961 Final, when losing by a single point).

On that basis you can declare the poll closed and hand it over to the Cavan team of the 60's, honours even in Ulster from 58 to 69 4 each with Down, Down win three All Irelands we don't win as much as a feckin semi final. Case closed really. Rossies were a right outfit culminating in the 1980 final all right.

I agree just saw it again recently . However Tyrone made up for it in the last decade

Laois team of the early/ mid  00s was imo a top team. Never really did itself justice and could have won an AI imvho even though they never got to a semi final. As to why  I have no idea.
Galway team of the 1970s/ 1980s also a top team.

I still maintain that Sligo left one behind in 2002.  I have a lot of care for Armagh football but I think even the most die hard Armagh supporter realise that they were lucky to beat Sligo in their greatest ever year. To take that thought further, had Sligo managed to beat Armagh and were as obsessed with doing two in a row as Armagh were, would Tyrone have taken them in 03.  Would Mayo have got by them in 04 and 06.  Would Armagh have won Ulster in 05?
