"ARTHUR'S DAY"

(From forthcoming album "Where I Come From", due out November 1st 2013)

(1)
Diageo Diageo have mounted a Crusade
Creating Arthur's Day they've suckered us into their charade
Start 'em off on Alco-Pops tastes just like lemonade
Get 'em into the hit while they're young and none the wiser

(2)
Diageo pump the volume up on Arthur's Day
With The Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Tom Jones and David Gray
To flog their alcohol they're revvin the youngsters up for a mighty spree
Twitter and Facebook tellin them where The Mumfords 'r gonna be

(Chorus)
Happy Happy Happy Happy Arthur's Day
Its such.... a Happy Clappy Advertisin' Scheme
Drink sensibly they implore us, as their Hosannas sound a never-ending chorus
'n kids get hooked on the fantasies that flash before us

(3)
Arthurs Alcoholiday is comin' round again
He's the patron saint of porter canonized by the Advertisin' Men
The medics in the ambulance 'll be workin overtime,
The A&E 'll be like a drunk tank in the firing line
While Diageo goes AWOL at closing time

Christy spot on. Advertisement day to sell more drink.

+1. Anyone who goes for a pint of Guinness because it's Arthur's day is an idiot. Des Bishop had a good slant on it in his documentary "Under the Influence".

Guinness is bogging. Put that in you pipe Arthur!

anglocelt39

think it was Guinness used to sponsor the tours of Christy and assorted others to Australia around St pats day in the late 80's early 90's but that, as they say, was then

Arthurs day is one unmerciful w**k mind you

More Springsteenian like hypocrisy here, from a guy who lyrically celebrated the DTs (name checking various alcoholic brands to boot), and football fans travelling to Germany with alcohol laden vans. >:(

Methinks Christy's main gripe is that he has not been invited to perform in any Arthur's Day events >:(

Ffs such songs are humerous and tongue in cheek. He has spoken very openly and written at length about the evils of drinking to excess and about his own struggle with alcoholism. Get over yourself  ::)

I wonder will the audience be allowed to clap along to it.

How yer man stayed up on the surfboard after 14 pints of...

Diageo, Diageo, daylight (robbery) come and me wanna go home.

Exactly. There's nothing humorous in the glorification of alcohol lyrically or otherwise!

Christ I need a drink fast, I find myself agreeing with Tony on something, sort of.

He is just bitter, man shuts down the bar at his concerts. He projects his demons on others.

Time to take a more chill-pill approach to life.

And the Guinness' were a shower of anti-Irish anti-Catholic hoors.

Lovely stout though.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.
