Monday, June 20, 2011 - 02:12 PM
Munster fitness coach Paul Darbyshire died this morning.
Participants in the Munster Cycle for Paul Darbyshire and MND Research were told of the tragic news by Munster captain Paul O’Connell before they set off on Stage Two of the cycle, which is hoped to raise in the region of €100,000.
Over 50 people, including Ireland head coach Declan Kidney, set off from Musgrave Park yesterday morning at 10.30am, arriving at Thomond Park at approximately 4pm to complete the 100km of stage One of the cycle.
Among those cycling were Ronan O’Gara, Billy Holland, Daragh Hurley, David Wallace and Tony Buckley while Mick O’Driscoll and Denis Fogarty joined in for today’s stage from Limerick to Roscrea.
All the players are registered on the mycharity.ie website so as to raise funds for Paul Darbyshire and Motor Neurone Disease research.
The news of Darbyshire’s passing came through early this morning, leading to a brief delay before the group set off for Roscrea.
Darbyshire is survived by his wife Lyndsey and four children, two sons and two daughters.
