Was brilliant watching Hackman sorting out those racists in Mississipi Burning. Just a movie but great performance and was satisfying to see them get done ..

Had a full argument with the wife this morning that he had died years ago when she was telling me about him dying. Halfway through I realised I was thinking of Gene Wilder. Not easy admitting your wrong.

What an actor.  Reminds me a little of what Gary Oldman has become.  Just brilliant in nearly everything he lays his hand on.

Unforgiven and the French Connection are of course stand out classics.  I have a soft spot for The Quick and the Dead

Gene Hackman was superb in Enemy of the State (1998). Although exaggerated a bit in the film it's still scary to think what the Government could do back then with the technology they had never mind what they are capable of now. Hackman's character in the film references what they could do even 20 years before that.

One of the greatest actors of all time!

Crimson Tide, Unforgiven, Mississippi Burning, French Connection, Superman, The Firm, Hoosiers...

One of those people where you'd give the movie a chance just because he's in it.

APM

Enjoyed him as Little Bill Daggett and as Rankin Fitch and also in Crimson Tide. Real senses of menace about those characters. He played a seriously good baddie!!!

Few better actors made so many movies good.

It's a movie that gets a lot of criticism for leaning too hard into the white saviour stuff, whereas in the real life story, the black people were so much more active and leading participants.

However, it is just riveting to watch, not just, but especially Hackman.

The scene where he get's Brad Dourif's racist sheriff in the barber's chair and beats the crap out of him snarling the "did you smile that stupid smile.." stuff.

Or when he goes at Michael Rooker's Klansman in the private club after telling his down home stories about when he was a sheriff not far away.

Just an extraordinary actor.

Hackman was excellent in French Connection 1 + 2. Not so sure about Superman........

Watched the Superman movies again a few months ago many has played the role as Lex Luthor since but none was as good as Gene Hackman.  So many memorable movies and scenes he was in,  without a doubt one of the finest actors.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

And therein lies the problems with the Democrats

Good guy battering the racists is now somehow perceived as a negative.

Fuckin hell whitey!

It's a criticism of the historical accuracy of a film based on real events. And a contemporary one from back at the time of the film's release at that! Assuming you've seen it, you can't deny that the black southerners were depicted as relatively helpless victims and little else.

Doesn't mean it's not a good film; it's a riveting watch as I've already said! But it's not a very accurate portrayal of the events surrounding the murder of those civil rights workers. Christ, even the family of James Chaney (the young black civil rights worker who was murdered) as well as Coretta Scott King, criticized the film at the time! Was that "woke" of them?
