You have to give him massive respect for what he did back in those days. His family must have went through a terrible time because he fought for what he believed in. If it were me I would replace the statue of Carson at the front of Stormont with one of Ivan Copper. Would be more fitting.

In fairness, Swann of the UU did not adopt the bitter tone of the DUP.

Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) leader Robin Swann said Mr Cooper "made a major contribution to political life in Northern Ireland". 

"At a time when many were resorting to violence as a means of achieving political aims, his commitment to purely non-violent, peaceful and democratic methods was an example of how politics should be conducted."

It was once said that you should never gloat in the deaths of others, not accusing you in the slightest Dougal by the way,  but there will be some shte thrown out in the next few days if this is true.

That's the last of the generation who would have been old enough to remember the Great War  and 1916.
