Of course you haven't, you haven't a notion, both played for Donegal at championship level. Because you haven't a clue you automatically assume Jimmy hasn't  either, arrogant clown.

John Duffy played corner forward for us for a good part of the nineties. Famously came on and rescued us from defeat against Armagh with two very late points in 1993 and became a fixture on the team after that.  McGonigle came late to intercounty football. Played midfield for us for a few years under Mickey Moran and Brian McEniff about a decade back.

I'm not too clued in on things at club level, so I've no idea what each brings to the table. Apparently McGonigle is chairman (and former manager) of his club, Buncrana. Diver was touted as an assistant to McGuinness first time around.

Donegal's former All-Ireland winning coach Rory Gallagher has joined the county's U21 backroom team as assistant manager.

Gallagher's appointment as understudy to manager Maxi Curran, who was a selector for the senior side under Jim McGuinness when Donegal won the All-Ireland title in 2012, was ratified on Monday night.

Curran and Fermanagh native Gallagher left the Donegal senior team's set-up after the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Mayo, after which McGuinness appointed an entirely new backroom team.

Meanwhile, Fermoy's Denis Ring has been appointed as the new manager of the Cork minor hurling team.

The Rebels' former All-Ireland winning captain, Mark Landers, will act as coach, while John Mortell and John O'Dwyer have been named as selectors.

DONEGAL officials have been summoned to Croke Park to discuss their controversial local championship schedule for 2014 in what some believe will be a test case for future handling of club fixtures, writes Cliona Foley.

Donegal clubs, after meetings with the county senior football manager Jim McGuinness, voted to defer all senior club championship action next year until after the end of the county's All Ireland campaign.

The vexed question of club schedules – particularly long delays instigated by county managements that leave regular club players unsure of their summer schedule and then create a glut of matches to be played off in quick succession – is a constant thorn in the GAA's side.

It is an issue regularly raised by the GAA's Medical, Scientific and Welfare Committee and the Donegal chairman and secretary have been called in on foot of a formal complaint from this committee.

County chairman Sean Dunnion said he was "very surprised" at the development and insisted that Donegal have broken no rules. He pointed out that the decision was taken by all of the county's senior and intermediate clubs, who rejected an initial proposal to play at least one or two rounds in April and May.

Donegal will be arguing that many other counties also defer local games until their inter-county campaigns are finished.

But it appears their decision to formally vote on, and agree, such a deferred schedule appears to be the straw that broke the camel's back.

How Croke Park now handles the Donegal situation is seen as a test case for player welfare, especially for the regular club players who are left for long periods without any competitive matches.

Until there's a change in the structures/timetables of Inter County competitions this conflict will remain.
Instead of singling out Donegal for formally doing what most Counties are doing informally , GAA HQ need to get the Football Review Committee to report soon and get their recommendations out there for discussion and hopefully implementation.

This is how change happens in most areas of life. A test case. Donegal should be singled out now as it will have a ripple effect if it is forced to be changed.
