Apparently 1 in 10 court cases are now for non-payment of TV licences... I couldn't find anything about it on the BBC website funnily enough (or the Guardian):

180,000 people last year! 2/3 were women.

Does anyone dodge the inspectors? When I was student, I never anwsered the door without a phone call first, for fear of a fine

Not at all no need for one. Worse thing you can do is give them your name. Check out YouTube for how to deal with them. Good laugh!

I remember the Holylands when we were there. Any man spotted anywhere with a Clipboard meant there wasn't a house in any street would answer the door!!!
