But you won't hear the click of a car door just before it opens in your path, you won't hear other cyclists until they roll up upon you, and you won't hear the pedestrians coming around the corner when you deviate onto a footpath.

You're already manning the smallest, most exposed vehicle on the road. Why make it more dangerous again?
