Another article from the master, appearing in yesterday's Sunday World (11/08/13):

Jim McGuiness is a good manager, i dont think we doubt that much, what would he do with Dublin and the players they have at their disposal. Roy is just a Dublin hype wagon lover and doesnt have the footballing background to come out with this crap, if a couple of former players say it you might take it with more than a pinch of salt.

Wildweasel74

The mention of  a Jedi knight and gaelic football in the same conversation, didnt read any further after than, pure drivel!!There was a time a reporter just reported the facts and didnt make them up

The dubs could do with getting rid of this twit, think hes half the reason other counties go against the dubs as the season progresses

Are you suggesting they hire a hitman?

In all fairness he has a valid point to make. McGuinness was elevated to an status by the media which was out of keeping with reality, but if that is the case then attack the people guilty, his media colleagues, not the man himself.

The other thing that irritates is what I would call "Dunphy speak" where Curtis paints himself as the independent wronged outsider, seeing through the rubbish & not being swept away by the hype.
Instead he comes across as a self regarding egotist, taking an easy shot at McGuinness instead of those he has to meet every day, other journalists.
For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world & loses his soul.

To be fair to McGuinness Donegal were nowhere when he took over. They were humiliated by Cork in croke park, beat by antrim (at home) in the championship and really they were a team that were going nowhere fast irrespective of what manager they brought in.

Harte took over a national league winning team with pedigree, Kernan took on Armagh who weren't a mile away before, Gavin has a Dublin team who won the AI a few years ago. All these other guys had something to work with. McGuinness was a long way behind what any of these guys had when he started and in two years won the AI. To me it still ranks as one of the greatest managerial feats in a long time.

On the flip side I don't think a team has ever trained so hard as Donegal last year and I think that very much took it's toll this year.

That guy who wrote the article clearly is a muppet.

Anything by Billy Keane.

His writing shows that the apple is well capable of falling a long way from the tree.

I love the way the Sunday World shifts to italics to make a point that is particularly important.

The other thing is the ads- country and western concerts followed by telephone porn.

Bingo

Roy Curtis be better served writing the responses on the "Dear Roy" problem page.

Ah here now, the Sunday World is the only paper worth buying on a Sunday. They should let Roy do the whole job, chase criminals, interview showbiz figures from the 'thriving' Dublin 'scene', hassle that Christina Gallagher wan out in Achill and of course the sport. He's awesome.

The staple diet of entertainment for many a Sunday World reader,  Nathan Carter Wagon-wheeling on a Saturday night, with no 'promise' back to the house to have a good old hand shandy to Lusty Lucinda's dulcet tones warbling down the phoneline about how hot Seamus must be and how wet she is for him. Up then on Sunday morning to buy this weeks bible and flick through it on the way to 11 o'clock mass to see what thon Kerry gobshite is writing this week.  Say the auld prayers for forgiveness for the previous nights sins and then off to the pub to read the rest of the bible and watch the match on the TV over a pint.
