We all must be forgetting Alam Smiths point/wide against Down in semi a few years ago so.

Sick when that happened, forgot he was the umpire.

He was laughing at it when he seen it on tv.

Not half as sick as I was when he was doing the line in the same year v Cork and allowed Cork play on the score the winner when the ball was about three feet over the sideline.

Can't believe bloody Joe McQuillan is reffing this

I'd say you're disgusted alright!
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Dont Matter

Joe McQuillan is the man that won Dublin the Leinster final in 05. Loads of soft frees especially near the end. He gave a 45 when it should have been a free out for a push in the back, then a nice handy one to win by a point.
Whatever small chance the Lillies had has flown out the window now.

Uncomfortable with a Cavan/Dublin man reffing this. Don't think he did us any favours against Cork last year (not that it affected the outcome).

You do know that the lies spun by James Horan last year were just that - lies, yeah? He's never reffed a Dublin challenge game or an in house a v b game.

He was just out for a walk, with some occasional jogging, practicing some karate, while taking random notes and whistling to himself?

I couldn't tell you what he does in his spare time, he wasn't near a Dublin training session anyway

You're just trolling now Heffo, sticking that link on a match thread. Be careful or you'll bring Don't Matter back.

@DH I know Hurley plays centre-forward for NUI Maynooth but I've never seen him play full-forward apart from the Tyrone match (although I live abroad so I haven't seen much of JTB the past couple of years). I really don't think he's a back-to-the-goals player. And that's what I mean by saying playing midfielders at full-forward doesn't work. It's similar IMO to when we stuck Earley there, looks like a fish out of water and rarely does any damage. Whereas the likes of Smith, Paudie etc are comfortable turning to attack, I think Hurley is much better coming on to the ball.

I wonder whether we'll ever get the best out of him. If you could transplant Daniel Flynn's attitude to Hurley - or Hurley's footballing ability to Daniel Flynn - you'd have the most promising young midfielder in Ireland.

I certainly don't want to bring that gobshi*e back, I was just wondering if either Gavin or McGeeney were one of the gang of four

Is this match on TV at the weekend?

He plays there quite often for JTB and his scoring record is very good. Obviously it's a big step up to inter-county football but I'd have Hurley at 14 ahead of many of the other players we have tried there. Captain Scarlet would be able to make a better judgement than me as to whether he could cut it in the forwards. The role he played against Tyrone roving between the two positions was interesting to watch and I wonder whether it was being trialed with this match in mind.

I think we need to go with something different because TOC just isn't as effective against the best teams. I wouldn't be totally against your suggestion of playing Paudie inside but I don't remember him ever being picked there by McGeeney. It's 2007 since he last played as an inside forward and I don't think he's as mobile as he once was.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?
